I bought a Peace Sports Chinese scooter...
It calls itself a "Peace Sports 50" on the actual bike. looking at my receipt the dealer called it an "805 Black" - The bike is black, but I'm not sure if 805 is the model # or just the shops identification #.
Anyway... I bought it pre-constructed from a scooter store in Charlotte NC. $1000.00 NEW including a helmet.
I stupidly threw away all the documentation that came with it (save for the receipt). (It was like.... half in chinese.... and.... almost indecipherable to me).
I have several questions that I hope yall might be able to answer.
########Questions#########
1. This bike was sold to me under the pretense that it was 50cc, yet, I swear to you it's speedometer says that it tops out at 60! Yes - When I top it out on a flat surface, the little needle goes all the way to the right side. I am not mistaking kilometers for miles. So my question is.... Is my bike really a 50cc model.... seeing as it appears to go so fast.... Or is it just a faulty Chinese speedometer? Do know that I pass cars with my little bike, cars that are going charlotte speeds (which is roughly 40mph on any road).
2. The gas gauge has already gone out..... that ain't a question but any comments would be appreciated. It always says it's empty (I just look into the tank to see if there's liquid there).
3. A bolt on the muffler came off, causing it to shake, I tighten the other bolt every other day now to prevent it from coming off... thoughts?
4. I totally messed up the break-in period... I'm at 660 miles and have yet to change the gear oil, also, when I changed the oil at 440 miles, I put 10W-40 in rather than the recommended oil (15w-40) it still runs.... but it feels like.... like it's a bit "gooed" up... Still tops-out at what it thinks is 60mph... How badly have I messed up? And how important is that gear oil change? The people at the place I bought it said I should change it after 1000 miles but the book (before I threw it away) said to do it after 300.
5. It runs about as hot as I've ever seen any engine run and still work, When I first saw how hot it was running I stupidly touched the muffler to "see how hot it was" and it burned my finger-prints off. No joke. This leads me to....
6. The muffler seems to be the hottest part of the bike, to the point that it has holes in the pipe leading up to it. Is that bad?
7. I have heard if I simply take off the muffler I will get more speed... True? Stupid? Please tell.
8. I made a makeshift cold air intake by taking the little air-intake hose and connecting it to a funnel that goes outside the chassis. Good, bad, or ineffectual idea? Even though the scooter seems to be running a bit better, should I adjust the carburetor?
9. From what I've read.... I think 15W-30 or even "20" oil would be better than 10w-40? It's a small engine... Also.... What about synthetics?
In summation:
The scooter is fast as sh!t... Or at least I think so. But it runs hot as hell. The muffler is cracked and shakes when I ride. It starts absolutely fine... But I had a problem the pother day that I didn't think I could fix.... Gas was leaking and it wouldn't start.... after determining the source of the leak I tightened one screw and the leak stopped and it ran (The screw was on the very bottom of the scooter, perpendicular to the ground).
In essence... I want this to be a little scooter that uses it's good jump-off acceleration to get ahead of cars at stop-lights, so that when it hit's it's weak spot (15-25mph) it's got enough of a lead to equal out the other traffic. I ride it as hard as I can.... Full throttle all the time... I have already put it down.... And I probably will again. Any help on any question would be appreciated, and also I plan to do any work on this thing myself... And I only have the tools that came with it.
My important question is this: How will my scooters hot-running affect it's lifespan, what can I do to prolong it's lifespan, and how do I make it go faster - Knowing that I do all this myself, am not a mechanic, and have no tools.
