Oh, I hope someone can help me. I just bought a 50cc Chinese Tank Scooter off of craigslist.org. When i got it it needed a new battery. All the back lights worked, the front blinkers worked, and the High beam worked. headlights didn't work, electric start didn't work, horn barely worked. I got a new battery, slow charged it, installed it. Now no lights work at all, the horn works, the electric start works dash lights work along with blinker indicator light and high beam indicator lights. The takometer does not work. Nor does the fuel gage. I'm need the lights to work so i can ride it on the street. I've taken off many of the panels to check and make sure everything's connected, and it all seems to be. Does anybody know what this could be, I'm so frustrated, please help, i'm desperate. My e-mail is firstname.lastname@example.org.
If your highbeams worked, but your regular headlight didn't, then the bulb was nearly blown. Get a new headlight. You can always use a spare anyway. Some of these scooters have a two way bulb. Meaning the headlight and the highbeams come from the same bulb. The headlight runs off your stator, so the battery issue is seperate from the headlight issue. The taillights work off the battery.
I'm kind of confused, because you said none of the lights work now, but then list the high beam working, and the dash lights working. What DOESN'T work?
Just to be safe, check the fuse down in your battery box. Maybe its that simple...

at the current moment the highbeams don't work either, when i got it all the lights worked except for the headlight, but nowafter putting in the new battery nothing works lightwise except for the lights for the dash, did i possibly blowout all the lights? i hooked the battery up without a fuse in at one point, with the 2 gold parts on the positive terminal where the fuse goes directly connected, the fuse doesn't look blown now.
The first thing I would is to check charging voltage. Should be around 14.3 volts at 5000 rpms. If it is not charging you will not have a headlight. It works off the charging system. If voltage is a lot higher than that it could blow bulbs. Take out several bulbs and see if they are blown. Use your volt meter across the battery to get charging voltage. Write back with the results so we can help you more.
On a Tank 50cc scooter, the headlights and dash illumination lights run off the AC side of the stator, the battery has nothing to do with the function of those lights. The scooter must be running for the lights to come on. If both the dash lights and the headlights do not work, either the stator is bad or you have a bad connection, or bad ground. The stator is located inside the right side of motor. At the Right top side of the motor, there is a wire bundle coming out of the motor. This bundle goes to a connector on the right frame rail. It will have a green, yellow and a white wire in a main connector and a bullet connector. Disconnect the main connector and start the bike. Using a multimeter on AC, connect one end of the multimeter to ground and probe both wires one at a time, they both should read around 25 volts AC at an idle. The both wires go to the regulator, but the yellow is tapped off to run the headlights and dash lights. If the voltages are correct your stator is good and the problem is in the wiring or switches or grounds.
Hope this helps

You should have at least 13.5 volts for charging. A fully charged battery reads about 12.8 volts with the key off. You should do the checks rapidjim mentioned. If everything is OK, then you might have a defective regulator/rectifier.

marklorenzi: I just bought one of the Fleetwoods. They look like a clone of the Honda XRM's they sell overseas. It is in transit now and I should get it this week. I will try to post my experience here. Call me the guinea pig hahaha.
