i have a 250B, and now when i put in the key to start it nothing happens. the lights on the speedometer don't even come on like they did before as soon as i turned the key to on. thought it was the battery, but it isn't-battery is good. now, i tried to start with the remote starter and she fired right up. i have never used the remote starter or alarm ever. could it be ignition switch gone bad? it was fine all summer, and 3 weeks ago was the last ride and all was fine. thanks, jim

does the alarm have a fuse? Mine didn't but some do...i think its like a 2 amp tube fuse....but your problem is related to the alarm system....what you are experiencing is the same problem I had with my bike...I could only start it with the remote start...putting the key in the ignition and turning it did not turn on the lights or anything, but I could start the bike no problems with the remote starter...I would still change the 15 amp fuse even if it looks good...they are a cheap item :-) Heres the thread I started regarding only being able to start the bike with the remote start and my DOH!! moment i had hehe scootdawg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=200cc&action=display&thread=27184

i changed the 15amp fuse eventhough it looked good. still nothing when i turn the key. touch the remote start and i starts. i don't understand it because i never ever used the remote start or alarm ever. it worked just fine, it set for maybe 2 weeks, then the problem started. any other ideas? if i disconnect the alarm and remote start will everything go back to normal?

Woe Woe Woe!! Hold the bus!! There are several things that can be wrong and it may not have anything at all to do with the alarm!! At this point leave the alarm alone and let's check one of four simple things it could be!
(1) Most people when they turn the key on squeeze the right brake handle as they press the starter button to start the engine! We all need to remember that pressing the brake is on part of the circuit that must be complete for the scooter to start, it's a safety feature! But what a lot of folks forget is that the scooter will also start with the left brake pressed! If the brake light switch on the right brake is bad and not making contact then try pressing the left brake handle and see if it starts, if it does then problem solved you need a brake light switch; OR the brake light switch wire may have come loose or be bad! But that is one problem that can cause this as you do not have to have the brakes pressed to start with the remote!!
(2) Even though you replaced the 15 amp fuse you still might not have power from the ignition as if you have a broke wire after the fuse then you will have no power to the horn, instrument lights AND the brake lights! No power to the brake lights no start! Just because the fuse is good doesn't mean the Chinese fuse holder is, CHECK IT OUT!!
(3) the start button can be bad or have a broke wire or a wire pulled loose, again if it's bad the scooter will still start with the remote! Ohm it out to see if it's good!
(4) Last but not least you may have a bad or pulled loose wire off of the brake switch circuit which goes to the starting relay again if it is bad the scooter will still start with the remote!
And I will add one more yes the ignition switch may be bad!! Easy to see, pull off the stuff to get to it, take a volt meter and see if you have 12 volts on the red wire! Then with the key on see if you have 12 volts on the black wire before the fuse! If not then bad switch! The scooter will still start with a bad switch with the remote!
Guys it's not always the alarm , in fact the alarm is working fine as it is starting the scooter as it should, look for the other possibilities!! JRR

I read somewhere I think it was on this forum, that if you start it with the remote you also have to kill it with the remote otherwise it will not start with the key. Alleyoop

On the 250B that is true! What folks don't understand about the remote is this: it's just like the key switch and starter switch combined but it does not need the brakes pressed to complete the circuit! You with the remote send a signal to an electronic switch that turns on the same circuit as the ignition and hits the starter relay at the same time as long as you hold the button down!
To turn off the scooter you must send a signal to it with the remote that does the same thing as if you had turned the key switch OFF! It's just an electronic key/start switch without the brake press safety feature!
That's why all will tell you not to go down the road riding your scooter with it running by the remote switch because if you acidently hit the stop button with it in your pocket the scooter engine is going to die with maybe you running down the raod going 60 MPH, NOT GOOD!! JRR

well today i pulled some plastic off to get to the igniton switch. when i play with the wire going into the switch my lights come on and she turns over. if i keep the wire in just the right spot she works like she should. wire moves and she doesn't. guess i'll be ordering a new switch.

Can you fix or replace the wire instead of the whole switch? It sounds like a break in the wire.

it turned out to be a bad ignition switch. i took the old one apart, and did not see any broken wires or weak solder joints. was impressed that roketa got my new one here in a week and it came with the locks for the seat, glove box and gas lid- all for $30.00. works like a charm now.

Do you have a link or the part number to order? Someone stole one of my set of keys, and I want to replace it all. Thanks
