This is my new Ice Bear trike. It is a MC TS8 from Sunny Sports. This trike is CARB certified for California so It has a few strange mods to the engine. The trunk is on the way I should have it next week I plan on doing some special mods so I started this new thread to keep this white trike stuff all in one place. Just changed the oil at 7 miles. Hi Trike20, COOL! You will have no trouble getting at the parts. With the muffler up like that the passenger will be nice and warm:) Alleyoop

This is my first observation. Maybe someone can figure this out... This is the A.I.R. injection assembly. The silver end is connected to the exhaust pipe as it exits the motor.... The other end is the AIR valve or regulator.... All is normal.... Right? Well would you believe that this is how it was installed on the factory delivered trike. One end is connected to the exhaust one way valve at the exhaust tap (silver metal valve box) with the black hose. The other end is connected to the plastic regulator no other hoses are connected. It never had any hoses connected except the one shown....No way this provided any emission control function on the trike. Has anyone seen this before? I don't have any issue with this because it is no longer on the trike but it looks like some kind of token smog lashup that was never completed at the factory. Attachments:

Yes... easy to get to the stuff... The sheet metal over the engine is removed for easy access to the carb. I got this model because I am using it as a test platform for an electric drive modification.... notice the background in the picture.
Just a note, The 300CC trikes with two wheels on the front and CARB for California should be here in April 2010. price =?

The first mod is just about done... Raise the handle bars 3 inches... I milled some spacer blocks to raise the stock handlebar mounts.... then ordered 130 mm long M8-1.25 cap screws from McMaster Carr. I get the bolts Tuesday... mod # 1 finished. Do you find the stock handle bars a little low? Maybe they are no so low on other nodels?

Hi Trike20, yes, your handlebars look lower than on mine. What size front wheel does it have?, mine has 13" rims in front and 10" rims in back. Alleyoop

Trike20, yes the handlebars on the Ice Bear Ruckus clone are lower than on the other models. Not comfortable for me so I am planning to do what you did and raise them up a couple of inches. Going to get risers for the mirrors as well. My 150-8 Ice Bear is black but that white one looks great too.

Trike20, you mention that Ice Bear is offering the 'spider' trike, two wheels in front, 1 in the rear in April 2010 in a 300cc model. Roketa has been offering this model in a 250cc this year. On line dealers price on the unit range from $5499.00 to $4800.00 and the lowest price I could find is $4600.00. I assume that the 300cc might be a little higher. I have been told that the 300cc engine will be available in the Ruckus clone that you and I have but I can not verify that. If they do offer I might be tempted to consider it. The Spider is a knock off of the Can-Am spider that is a unit that produces 94 hp and goes for around $17000.00 and up. They are quite simular in appearance but the Can-Am is a bigger trike.

GReat looking bike Mr 20. I like that fact that you can get to all the parts rather easily. I just put the plastic back on my 150-9 for the second time. While it as easier the second time, man what a chore. Do you suppose the 300cc will retrofit to the 150 frames we have now?

The reverse 150cc trikes have been out in limited configuration but I find none certified for California. If you can't get it licensed then it is worthless in Cal. 2010 will be the first year for the 300's on my Ice Bear trike model. I do not know what the reverse trike models will cost. We should know after the dealer show in Feb. I am not a dealer but I follow the China sources with great interest.

Thanks, 20, for that information. It would be a definate plus for the Ruckus clone to come out with the 300cc engine. The reverse trike is ok but I will stay with the 150-8 because the design is so easy to work on. That is a neat looking electric trike in the making in the back ground of your photo!!!!

This is the new battery mount. The battery mounted in the front area caused tweeking of the front end on rough roads and the factory mount flexed beacuse of poor attachment design. This new postiion also lowers center of gravity. The -8 did not use this new space anyway. Attachments:

This is the 3 inch handlebar riser. Much better ride on this -8 Ice Bear model. Real air filter and rejet is next... 15 miles now... Need more daylight time to ride.... Attachments:

Trike20, I went right by the new battery positioning. Now that is another problem solved. Getting the front cover for the electronis off is a bear. I have worried about the inconvience of battery recharging or replacing. This is a great answer. Have you considered making the bar risers as an after market project? I would be an immediate customer for them!!!!!

The 3 inch risers are not doing it. the height is now OK but I still cannot use the stock rear view mirrors. It looks like I will have to change the handlebar to a high riser similar to chopper style... then the stock mirrors will work. Everyone with the xxx-8 style 2009 Ice Bear must have the same problem but I have not seen any comments on the forum. I am now looking for a new handlebar. I suspect I will also have to make the brake lines longer too. Hooked up a 100db buzzer for the turn signals yesterday. Now everyone knows when I fail to turn off the blinkers...

This trike has an electronic odometer so it uses a hall pickup sensing 5 magnets on the front wheel. I found that the sensor was intermittent and sometimes it did not work or read up to 150 MPH. This was mostly when the trike was running over 15 MPH.... vibration caused the problem. I found that the in-line connector on the seneor cable was bad because the internal pins were not made properly and did not mate tightly. I trashed the connector and replaced with a better one. All is well now. The spedo defaults to KM/hr and can be reset to MPH manually. Does anyone know if there is a way to have it default to MPH on boot up so I do not have to set it to MPH each ride?

I ordered the Ebay extenders but they did not fit. My trike has 8 mm mirrors and the Ebay parts fit 10 mm threads. Could not use them. Chopper handlebar is on order. It looks like this model trike used to have taller and wider handles... This year I guess they ran out on the build....

Now the Chopper handle bar should do the trick!! Be sure to post a picture of it and an idea as to what it costs. I could go for that set up.

Trike 20: I am interested in how you built the battery mount under the seat. How much trouble has it been to reiwire the battery or was it any trouble at all. You say that the battery in it's original mounting 'tweeked' the front end. In what way? I am curious as I feel that my front shocks are not as strong as they should be and I get a lot of front end vibration. By the way have a bone for the greatr info you are sharing about your efforts on the 150-8.

I just made a bracket to hold the battery under the seat. There were mounting tabs with a plate that came with mine. It looks like the plate was for some sort of switch or radio mounting. I spliced 10 ga wires to the stock battery cables and routed them back to the new battery position. The battery was an extra load on the front vertical bar which added mass it was also higher so it raised the center of gravity. The stock mount is what we call... " Why did they stick it there?" It also was not strong and bent with normal riding forces.... and you could not get to it for charging. I also have a vibration on the front... it is from the front wheel not being balanced or the wheel not being round. I will fix that later.... If you take your hands off the handlebar at low speed, the front end should be stable and not want to wiggle. I have installed chopper handlebars and am waiting for new brake longer lines.
Now the stock mirrors work great and the whole front end will fit me better. I will have more pictures once I get the mods finished.

Thanks, trike20. My objections to the original battery mount is the same as yours, very hard to get to if you need to replace or recharge the battery. Bryan Smith has the same vibration problems with his IceBear but it gets some better with milage. We checked the tires for the roundness and mine was OK. I think it is an unbalanced tire and plan to use micro Beads to see if that balances the tires and helps the situation. I am still trying to find time to work on the rear end 'stutter' when you first take off. I will get to these projects as time allows. I still like the trike and for the money it cost I cant complain.

Thanks, Trike20. Did you need the longer lines due to the height of the chopper bars? We felt that they did not give much wiggle room when they cut the brake and electric lines on the 150-8 Ruckus clone. Pix of the set up will be appreciated greatly. You have shared some great info on this model, have a bone for your troubles

I'm still waiting for my missing trunk from Sunny Sports. They promised to ship it two weeks ago but still no response or answers to my many Emails. I just back charged my credit card yesterday to get their attention. Got the handle bar from Ice Bear parts... very good service and fast part shipment. Thank you Ice Bear! Attachments:
