Posted the questions below in another area of the SD Forum. Thought I'd try here, too. Only 200 miles on my new 2008 Roketa MC-13-150cc touring scooter. Seems odd the spark plug should foul out so quickly.
1) Could running premium gas (no ethanol) have anything to do with fouling out the plug? That's what the dealer recommended I use.
2) Also, when putting new plug in, I thought you were only supposed to hand tighten a spark plug and then go about 1/4 turn more. I had to tighten this one in a good bit more than that before it would finally fire. Is that normal?

Hello Scootnut54,
Most scooters run just fine on any quality gas. Mine happens to like 90 or above RM+2 octane fule. I wish I could get non ethonol fuel but it is not available in the mid-West.
As for plugs, did you see any bright metal flakes, shrads, or the like on the plug threads when you took it out? I hope not!
If yout plug hole is clean and you hand tighten it, 1/4 turn will do, I get by with much less. Most people over tighten plugs, just snug them up and if you have good threads, it wont come out.

The factory OEM spark plugs aren't very good. Put in a NGK plug instead. Check the spark plug wire as it is likely loose. the wire screws into the coil and spark plug cap. Aloose spark plug wire will cause the ignition coil go bad. you are correct on the spark plug being screwed in. but be cautious some people have stripped out the threads.

earlwb:
I'll check that other end of the spark plug wire. Ever since I've had the scooter . . . only about 6 weeks . . . I get a "delayed response" when I push the ignition button to start the scooter. It's like I get a brief noise, then a silent pause for 1 second or so, and then it resumes trying to start again. I haven't checked it yet, but could a loose spark plug wire at the coil end cause it to behave this way when trying to start the scooter?

the plug on my mc 46 roketa fouled quickly too. I was thinking a couple of things. I might have slightly over filled engine oil during pdi, original testing was reg. gas, set too rich on idle, yadda yadda yadda. I pulled the plug (it was a good ngk plug from the factory), cleaned it up.. AND RE GAPPED IT. the orig. gap was WAY too small. I think that might have been the problem, so far still running OK. check the gap.
