Just wondering everyone, how hard is it really to install the 72cc kit found on enviromoto's site. I plan on purchasing this but need a time frame of about how long it takes to install for someone with intermediate mechanical skills. Thanks in advance.

Really quite easy, only takes a couple hours. No machining necessary for your typical QMB engine. The kit comes with an install cd.
I reccomend removing the engine so you can put on a bench or table. It makes things much easier.
The kit is a good deal, considering what you get for the $$

the bench thing is out, i live in an apartment complex so work area other than my parking spot is just not there. hope to move into a house eventually but for the moment i am tied into my apartment lease. maybe if someone has the CD that comes with the kit so i can check it out before hand i can possibly get a copy of that, maybe you Indy if you have it or enviro will see this and will be able to get me a copy. Thanks again.

I'll talk to Jeremy and see what we can do on the cd. I've got a cd that came with my mrp 82 kit layin around the house somewhere. If you want pm me your adress and I'll send it to you.
As far as the apt thing, Just remove engine and carry it inside. All it takes is undo rear shock, unhook carb fuel line and throttle cable. unhook a couple wiring connectors' and loosen engine mount. You're good to go.
If you choose, you can install kit while engine is in scoot.

I've never done this job on a scooter but have on Honda trail 90 motorcycles. The guys here say that pulling the motor out is pretty easy so I'd try that and like he says just take it to a bench top and do the rest, could even be on a picnic table. As long as you properly line up the timing marks and do not drop the timing chain it should be a pretty quick job, putting it on a bench would save a lot of bending over and back pain, not to mention having everything out in the open and easy to get to.

Wow I'm late to the party on this one! Here is a link to a GY6 big bore kit install by the big dogg himself. Installation is identical to the GY6 install. www.scootdawg.com/downloads/TopEndInstallGY6.pdfEmail me direct for the quickest response.

I don't have any experience with the kit. However I can tell you that Mr. Enviromoto is an excellent supplier. I ordered a choke enricher solenoid from him and it was at my home in no time. Just what I ordered and I received it in 3 days. Honest price as well. Thanks Enviromoto. I wouldn't hesitate to buy that kit from him.

I have another version posted here, the Dazon version that comes with many of the kits. It also covers replacing the oil-pump which is regarded as optional to most, even though it comes with the kit. www.absolutelyscooters.net/PerformanceKitOperation.pdfBTW, I do have 6 of these left in stock, available for immediate shipping.

After looking at these two pdf's it seems that although I am competent when it comes to this kind of this I still might want to pass on doing this since this is my main transportation method, I would need to purchase a couple new tools or find someone to install for me.

to the others who HAVE already done this is the extra 10mph(most likely)-20mph(wishing) worth it on a 50cc. i am currently weighing in about 230 and am working out a bit to drop back down to my former self of only 200(or less) losing 30 lbs would add a couple mph as well. thanks again guys

Im 270 and my bike did 50 with the kit. If you want to go faster you will need the 82cc kit, performance head, and Cam. However that much power will lead to crank bearing failure.
Besides 50mph is about as fast as you want to go on these little scooters unless your drag racing.

How much acceleration does it add? My bike does up to 42 on the flat, which is probably all I need or want, but getting there faster to keep up with traffic would be a good thing for me.

You get a ton of acceleration out of the kit. You will take off faster than most cars.

now the only problem is coming up with the money, i had some problems with school and i am losing the loan funding because of it so the little extra money i had will most likely be going to school not scoot . i would still love to get this i though since i would most likely be able to hit over 50 and get great acceleration which is mostly what i want to do anyways. once again edit... just noticed i have 1 bone HAHA I RULE

Don't worry dude it takes time if anything just upgrade the best you can like I'm doing and let the bore kit come in the future. I'm the same way straped for cash ,I just work with what I can and the scoots slowly getting there.

Heres what I can remember off of the top of my head.
Socket Wrench 14mm Socket 12mm Socket 10mm Socket 8mm Socket
Open end wrenches same size as above and a 9mm
Phillips head screwdriver Flat head screwdriver Sidecuts Zip ties
You need a air impact to remove the variator nut to install the rollers. You could take this to your favorite mechanic shop after you get everything put together and the should help you for cheap.
Needle nose pliers and a standard feeler gauge set.

So it looks like I need to pick up a feeler gauger set which at harbor freight is only $3.99 and also I think I need to pick up some open ended sockets and possibly a nice neddle nose plier. BTW what is a sidecut, can someone post a picture so I know what I need to get.

Do you keep the same spark plug and oil injection?
|
|
|
Post by Enviromoto on Jan 31, 2009 18:03:26 GMT -5
The kit comes with a sparkplug and I include a oil pump but you dont really need to switch those out. Oil injection is a two stroke this is a 4 stroke kit.

Most big bore upgrade kits include a cylinder head and valves.
Any reason these items have not been included in this kit?

They dont tell you but the head offered on most other 72cc kits is no different than stock. The MRP 80cc kit is the only one that has larger valves. I offer the head for it if you want it as well.
My kit offers everything you need to go 45+ with improved acceleration without the extra cost of parts you dont need.
I throw in the oil pump for free although I have never changed it out.
