:'(In addition to my 150cc bike I have this 50cc that won't start, & when it does it will not keep running. I have had a small engine mechanic tear the carb apart & he said one jet was clogged which he clean out, & checked it all out. put it back on ran for a while & died. I keep telling him it was be electrical because it just won't kick over no how. He states its geting gas OK & it has to be the carb, & wants to put on a new carb I have, but again I feel its electrical if its getting gas & won't turn offer. What your expert opinions? Thanks: Mike

check it for spark, if its got spark kick it over without the spark plug in and your finger over the hole to see if you got compression or kick it over by foot and you should feel the compression pulse. if you got spark, compression its a fuel/air delivery issue. make sure that the vacume pump is operational, they suck i replaced mine today after 900 miles. simple test is to disconnect the fuel line from the carb at the filter and slip off the vacume line and suck on it a bit, gas should pour out. next look at your fuel filter, maybe try and blow through it and make sure air passes fairly freely if not its plugged.

It could be way to many things to narrow down from the first post. If your carburetor needed cleaned what was the cause of contamination? How much oil is in the scooter? How many miles? Been sitting?

Well I'll try to make it as short as I could. I have vacume, fuel is OK coming thru the filter to the carb, when I first got it the float in the gas tank was disintergraterd all black pieces floating around, so the first thing I did was remove what was left, pull the the large pieces then empty the tank. I then flushed the tank out with a lot of water & let it dry because I knew there would be smal pieces still in the gas line. Then filled it with gas but NO GO. next the carb came off & one of the jets was clogged with that black rubber, from the float, packed solid, had to really soak & poke thru it & clean the entire carb. reinstalled, again a no go. My mechanic still thinks its the carb. & I think electrical, OH, its got spark. SO, how about an auto choke, or Ignition coil? COME ON GUYS I GAVE YOU THE WHOLE STORY, ITS A NEW BIKE, ONLY 40 M ON IT. YOU HAVE TO HAVE SOME IDEA WHY THE DAM THING WON'T START (yes its ogot a good battery)) THANKS FOR ANY INPUT: MIKE

I am not an expert but, I would have to agree with the mechanic - carb trouble. Those things are really touchy critters. I bet the carb still has junk in it somewhere. Try staring it with the gas line pinched off, spray a little starting fluid in it. If it fires then it's the carb. Really frustrating when it won't run huh?

if its got spark its in the fuel somewhere. is there fuel IN the carb, should be a drain plug on the bottom. if not your float needle may be stuck because of the gunk and not letting the fuel into the carb. i agree with the above poster, spray a bit of starter fluid in the carb and see if it fires.
