I asked about this in a different thread but the title was very specific, hopefully more will see this.
The back latch on my seat won't unlatch and I can't get my seat open. I have resistance when turning the key, I've tried holding key in unlock position and pulling, I've jiggled it, I've tried pulling with some force. Is there any way anybody can think of to get the seat open?

When you turn the key, the mechanism is actually pulling a couple of small cables. They look just like bicycle brake cables. One of them goes from the key to the latch at the back of your seat. Find that cable and use some needle nose pliers to help pull the cable. When you get it open, use some silicon lube on the latches while working the key. It helps a lot. You may have some bent parts that are responsible for pulling the cable. Ours are pretty flimsy to begin with.

what scoot do you have if you have like what I have the roketa 250 B the key uses both latches now something I switched out right away that I noticed was you almost had to slam the seat to get it to lock, the seat hinge has two bolts and nuts in between you may find about 5-6 washers per side this is to set up the seat with the locks, I found out that also mine would not open, I had to turn the key jiggle the seat and watch on the right side where the seat hinge is as the seat was grabbing the right fairing, I used a piece of no mar plastic to get it to give a little, cut out the bolts for the hinge seat, FYI mine were welded, put in new#8s with lock nuts had to re-apply the washers I added 1 more washer on the front bolt and that made a big difference

Is this something I'll have to take the side panel off for? Oh how I dread taking parts off of this bike. lol. I can't get to the back latch to wedge plastic in to loosen it. Normally, I wouldn't care if it were just a storage issue, but obviously I have no easy access to lines and carb without getting seat up.

See my post on your other thread...you will need to take that panel off. I know how you feel about disassembling these suckers, but after you've done it as many times as I have already, the process becomes pretty quick and painless...

This is just awful. I see no way of getting it off. I tried reaching up from underneath but can't find the cable going to back. I found one going to front but that didn't help. I can't take the body panel off without getting seat up. I don't know what to do??? Please, can anyone think of anything? I even tried pulling seat up as much as I could and can reach the nuts holding seat on, but just with my finger tips, not enough to get a tool in there.

I wish I was there, I could probably pop it with a screwdriver since the front latch is opening, I was able to latch the rear and not the front, so I could test it, and with a screwdriver(LONG ONE) I was able to get tothe rear latch and pop it open...
You might try it... You need something to wedge in between the scoot and the seat to keep it up and out of your way... I used tupperware...

Alright Jim, some more questions, if you don't mind of course. I assume I'm going in under the seat, getting my arm in the area that I can get up. Once I'm in there with a long screwdriver, what next? Do I just get it down into the latch area at the back? Am I trying to hit something in particular or am I just blindly fishing hoping to pop something? Any more details you can give is greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot Jim.

goblue62577, I know your pain intimately. I had the same thing happen on my mc-54-250b and found out that the spring in the back latch had come off somehow. I turned the key until I was blue or basically red in the face. I attempted to take off the panels without any success since I could not get to the screws due to the seat remaining locked with the back latch. I too tried to reach under the scooter and attempted to access the cable. No luck there. Attempted to stick a long screwdriver in the back latch but since the space was so tight, I was unable to get it released and grew more frustrated. What I did was a desperate measure to get the darn thing to open. It was the only way I could get the seat up high enough to get a screwdriver in to release the latch. I pulled up on the seat until the plastic at the back of the seat partially cracked around the latch hook and was able to finally release the latch mechanism and release the seat. Again, this was a desperate measure but I had run out of ideas. Now the seat was open and I could see that the latch spring had come off basically locking the seat and no way to release it. I removed the rear plastic body panels and fixed the latch spring on both the front and rear latches so they would not come off again and temporarily patched the crack in the rear seat plastic. The seat locks and opens with both the front and rear latch just fine now but unfortunately I will eventually need another seat. I have one on order. Who knows when I will get it though. My dealership is asking that I provide pictures of the damage so they can submit a claim form to get one at no charge since the latch mechanism was at fault and this was the only way to fix the problem. Anyway, this is how I solved the problem. It was the only way in my book to fix this. Hopefully someone will have a better idea than damaging your seat. Jim V.

well, you aren't going to be able to really see what your doing, so it really is going to be mostly fishing blindly.. I'll try to get some pics of what to try to get into....

I was afraid that I might have to pull it so hard that I might crack something. I don't have a long screwdriver so I'll have to get one today, hopefully I can somehow reach it without having to crack the body panel. At least I know the only way to get it is to try and unlatch it with screwdriver.

Here are two pics, showing hte latch, and how I popped it. Kind hard, but if you get a long screwdriver(I used a short one for the sake of picture taking), and get it into the latch area, you can get in between the seat(Not pictured cause I couldn't have it down and get the camera in there) bracket and the latch mechanism, then try to pull the seat part towards the left side of the scoot, while pushing the mechanism to the right side of the scoot(keep in mind you are working on this backwards so left side of scoot is your right side) Anyway, you should be able to pop it, there was a little play in the mechanism, this will get you in, and you can fix whatever from there...

Try sitting on the seat as you turn the key - it could be binding..

A picture really is worth a thousand words. Jim, you've done it again. Seriously man, thanks for taking the time out to give me a hand with this. Another bone thrown your way.

My back latch sticks every now and then. I just give it a little tap with the side of my fist at the back latch (kinda like the old tv tap)) and it pops open. I thought it was a security feature.

Nope. I couldn't get the screwdriver down into the hook. I'm going to work on it later and see if I can figure it out somehow.

You're not going to believe this, IT WORKED!! I just banged on it twice and it popped right open. Amazing how the easiest fix is the one you don't think of. Thank you!!! A bone for the tip.

cool!! WOW! THat is AWESOME! I can't believe that worked, and jiggling it up and down didn't... Weird..... These are the quirkiest things.... But, that's what makes them more loveable.. Congrats on getting it open... BTW, The underseat storage is very valuable.. Don't know what I would do without it.. I went to the grocery store the other day, and bought 5 six packs of 16.9oz bottles of soda, a box of fudge bars, 2 containers of butter, 4 cans of coffee, 2 packages of cottage cheese,2 loaves of bread. and a George Foreman grill,(The small one), I was able to put the grill under the seat, everything else went in the trunk, I wasn't able to close it, but I held it with a bungee, except the bread, I put that in a separate bag, and hung it on the handlebars, then rode home... IT was great... Store is 2.5 miles from my house... So not too far to go like that, all 25 to 35mph..

I know, I can't believe jiggling it up and down AND side to side didn't work but banging on the outside of the seat did. I thought I was jiggling it pretty hard but I guess it needed a good bang. I've opened and closed it several times since and it now works just fine. Thanks again to everyone who took the time to give me suggestions, I appreciate all the input.
That's impressive Jim. I had no idea that much stuff could fit. Good to know.
