Its so easy for your scooter to get stolen since 2 people can easily pick it up , steering lock pin can be broken , and it can be hot wired easily . I used to ride real bicyles not Walmart etc ones , and didnt want my 500 dollar bicycle stolen so I bought 2 of those giant ubolt types . I had one to test cutting with a Sawzall and hacksaw by hand , either one took a while and made noise . Thieves want to be quiet and try to avoid items with too much protection vs an easy snatch and run . I clamped it around the frame and anything like a handrail . On my scooter I use two through the wheels and then a cable with keylock till I get a heavy chain . Only get keyyed locks , combos can be broken and forgotten . Heres a link to what I am talking about www.walmart.com/ip/Kryptonite-4-x-9-U-LOCK/10370936 I use them like a traffic ticket boot .I found some boots for scooters but 130.00 is alot compared to 15 . Look in your local store in bicycle section . I also found some valve stem caps with flashing LEDs for 8 dollars , increase being visible at night and bling factor too

Here in Puerto Rico scooters are stolen almost weekly. While you are on the road and stop at stores or a mall or whatever its best to put the Disc lock that has the alarm Also bring a nice thick chain and if you can lock it up next to some type of high metal pole. while your at home at night do all the same things and if possible bring it inside your house at night. I had a friend that his scooter was stolen from his driveway at night. he had a gate around his entire house but didnt have a lock for the front gate. www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/4/74/38303/ITEM/Xena-XZZ6L-Alarm-Disc-Lock.aspx?WT.ac=SLIsearch

Im worried about my scooter being stolen. I garage it at night. Im glad that, in Colorado, I can park on the sidewalk. I always try to put it where I can see it. I dont know about the disc locks that "scream" I hope you dont have to have disc brakes. I will be looking.

Yep do not forget to remove locks before starting it up . I met a guy on a scooter at a store . His combolock cable got broken . I showed him the locks I just had bought .I saw him months later he told me he forgot he had it on the back wheel ( through the wheel like a ticket boot ) and destroyed the tag and rear tail lens . The bicycle locks are not too heavy and a cable or small chain fits under seat . Have a heavy chain or mean dog when at home . Maybe a NRA sticker might help lol . Afriend of mine has a sign that reads " No trespassing , all trespassers will be shot .Survivors will be shot again "

Nice ideas. I've never had a problem with people trying to steal the Bali 250. Had a person back into the bike trying to occupy a space my bike was already occupying... Even though she had the entire parking lot to park her tank of a vehicle... Idiot drivers...

there is NOTHING(<--say slowly) in this world that a bolt cutter cannot cut...
a concealed scooter alarm with independent battery power is the best solution in my own opinion. ..thief hates noise, remember that.!

i just use the factory wheel lock on my Kymco super 8 150. I also carry comprehensive insurance. I ride my scoot for the convenience. If i have to do more than put a helmet on and drive off, i lose that convenience and might as well just walk. I hope the scoot doesnt get stolen, but, if it does- thats what we pay insurance companies way too much for.

i totally agree with alex. it's the same as fixing a scooter, ,,i mean we buy scooters to transport us conviniently from point a to point z,,but if we are going to fix the scooter more than we ride them, yes! might as well walk or ride the car. it defeits the purpose.. don't get me wrong,,i'm not talking about chinese scoots. niff, niff, niff!

I use a combination of stuff for my 2 scooters...
Piaggio BV 250...at work or out-n-about I use a u-shaped disc lock, lock the steering column, and rely on the chipped key/starter kill system on board; at home it gets 2 separate 5/8" thick cables & matched padlocks (one through each wheel) that wrap around secure anchoring points, lock the steering column, and rely on the chipped key/starter kill system on board
Aprilia Scarabeo 100...at work or out-n-about I use a 5 foot long 3/4" thick combination cable lock that goes thru the back wheel and between the rungs of the handgrips on the back of the scooter; at home it gets the same combination cable lock thru the front wheel and to an anchoring point (eventually it will live inside the patio with the cable lock thru the back wheel & thru rungs on rear handgrips)

Talking scooters recently, I met a guy who said my TNG looked a little like the one that was stolen from him. I said, oh yeah you gotta keep em locked up. He said, it was, they cut the lock. Ever since that day I'm very worried, not so much when I use it, but my daughter takes it to school thats the part I worry about.
