Having any new problems now that it's turned hot (around here anyway)? Well the problems might be related to the carb, and to the higher temperature. Possible issues...longer cranking before the scooter starts, poor performance for a few minutes after a restart after a short stop, unstable idle, lower mpgs, or even worse symptoms.
They all could be caused by the carb temperature, particularly after sitting for a few minutes. The heat off the engine and CVT housing could be boiling the gas in the float bowl, causing evaporation. Other things happen when the carb starts getting hot, like idle issues.
Messing around with the jetting and the other adjustments probably won't help much.....but there are other possible fixes.
Like this.....a fan blowing ambient air into the engine compartment. This one only works while the engine is running, but it does lower the temperature of the carb and everything else in there.
Other fixes....cover all the gas lines and vacuum hoses with plastic cable wrap. That keeps the temperature of the gasoline that enters the carb somewhat lower.
Here's something I'm testing out.....an aluminum scoop under the carb, this directs the heat rising off the engine away from the float bowl, and the rest of the carb. This was a common fix in the old days for cars with carburetors.......they were subject to the same heat issues.
Here's something else....for scoots with a vacuum shut-off on the gas tank. It's a simple plastic flap that keeps the valve/lines cooler.
There are other methods of course.....like removing the plastic side covers of the scoot, no doubt others. What I've shown here are easy fixes.....I haven't had any problems in 95/100 degree temps thus far, and I don't want any.
Off topic.....lost any bones lately? The mods tell me there's a "back-door" method for taking bones away. Mine have been dropping lately. I think I know who's doing it, but I won't name anybody. Doesn't bother me any, since it's just childish behavior. Figures though.....
