Hello, Newbie to this list. I have owned about 50 motorcycles and scooters in 50+ years. I can do my own maintenance and repairs. Currently I own a 2005 Yamaha XT225 and a 1983 Honda VT500FT. I am looking for owners of the Znen Rowdy Scooter (150cc Ruckus Clone) that are willing to share their experience with me. I'm 5'11" and about 200lbs.
How has the scooter held up? Is performance ok? Light off road riding possible? Any problem getting parts? Would you buy it again? Where did you buy the Rowdy?
Thank you,

I ride dirt/gravel roads on my bali all the time. It's more a function of tires. The really cheap ones which are lousy for cruising at 55 MPH on pavement are pretty good on dirt and gravel. Here's some dirt cheap Duro's ($21 a piece)(pun intended...ha..ha I'm a comedian now) which I would slap on that bike if I was going to do mostly light off roading. ZNEN is a decent Chinese scooter manufacturer. I don't see anything in the spec sheet to indicate the engine/drive train is significantly different performance wise then any other Chinese 150cc GY6 scooter. As far as getting parts...once you worked out the secret decoder ring on Chinese scooter parts...(Most of them are interchangable across brands, models) getting parts is pretty easy. Body panels can be a pain...but that model seems like it doesn't have much in the way of body panels.

Secret decoder ring, that's funny.
I guess it is a secret to many motorcycle shop mechanics.

Hey barnone I own and ride this model (big ruckus clone) . Mine was distributed by Roketa, model MC-60 ( www.roketa.com/product/product_support.jsp?cateID=1&sonCateID=0&proID=25187 ) My frame appears to be of good quality for a Chinese scooter, one could speculate that the frame comes from the same factory Honda got their Big Ruckus frames from (most likely NOT but you get my point ) Mine has held up well as a daily commuter. You need to do an extensive PDI or this one will absolutely crap out on you. Performance: Stock I got mine up to 55mph/8000 RPM regularly on 45mph roadways in NYC. Dropped to 45mph on inclines crossing bridges. I think thats pretty good for almost 600lbs (bike and rider). Long wheel base makes it very stable. Off Road: With good tyer it's good but the the suspension is lacking. You can putt around on the rough and rocky but nothing like a dirt bike. Mine liked dirt roads but you got to ride it (not drive it) if you know what I mean. Parts: I've had a good experience getting parts from Roketa. All of my internal parts on mine are standard GY6 scooter parts, so you can find those everywhere. Except for the gas tank, the tank is huge . Body parts are expensive from Roketa, I guess since there is only one bike in this style . There is no under seat storage and no true step-through. Would I buy it again: I originally wanted the Honda Big Ruckus, but they stopped importing them, so this was a compromise. I have come to like the fact that its a GY6 and parts are cheaper and more available than the Honda parts. It's more of a hobby bike for me now since I've modded her up to 180~190cc's, and I'm still not done ;D. So the answer is YES I would buy it again. As a matter of fact if I knew then what I know now I would have bought it instead of the BR. Good Luck on which ever scooter model you chose. Tiger.

You can trust what 2btiger says. Pretty good review.
Barnone, did you find a used or a new one?
How much is the seller asking?

Okay, that's a COOL freakin scoot! I don't normally like that look, and hate the ones with the double round headlights (looks like a giant bug) but that is cool. I'd ride that. Get it! Before usfmarine does. . .

Is there a PDI list? Are you kidding me? this is ScootDawg, home of "Big Guy", take a look at his PDI * click here* And on this scoot it was amazingly ez since it's naked like a MC, I had no excuse not to change everything. $1600 is the right price, I bought mine from my uncles friend with 60 miles break-in on it. I was kind of a gift for my young family during the high gas price period. Worked out to $2000 with me picking it up 100miles away, registration and insurance. Like I said before, once I realized how simple and cheap these scoots were I had to pimp it ;D. I had a budget of $5000 for a Honda BR and at apx $4000 I have a cheap quick BR clone cruising at 65mph. Here are a couple pixs, I'm still shaking down her mods so these are old.

2btiger, Is there a good amount of space in the engine compartment on that big ruckus clone?
How easy it is to adjust your valves?
I would imagine that there is a lot of space since the big ruckus is 250cc.
I hate the tight clearances in my il bello. Getting the plastics on and off is the most annoying part of working on my scooter.

I like the scoot, but the original Big Ruckus had a 250 which was perfect for its weight. Your average 150 is lighter and I find them slow as it is. I wouldn't mind having one if it had a 250... or maybe bigger.

usfmarine the valves are easy to access but it's one of those 6 of one 1/2 dozen of the other deals. All the electrical, wiring and batter are under the seat so you have to remove that box to access the carb for removal. So jetting a CV takes twice as long as a regular scoot. I stole this pix from mhan, he had the same scoot marketed as a "Rugged". Riddick79 I thought it would be slow also but I was pleasantly surprised. Seem they did a bit of CVT tuning 18g weights and a mystery spring made mine performe like a regular stock scoot, go figure . (but much mor stable in the front end ;D ) I looked extensively into installing a 250cc engine but that would not be a reliable build for me. The 250's run fast but the 150 GY6 could be goosed to 70MPH and the response along the way feels way faster IMO. Now I drive and ride like a wimp, I rarely go over 60MPH even in my cage. So the 150 stock or modded works for my riding style and routs. I'm only offering these insights as information for barnone , I hope he finds the vehicle which fits his style and needs. Tiger.

Tiger, Thanks for all the info. I kinda surprised at the differences in price of this scooter depending on where you buy it. Seems to vary by up to $500. I assume that they are all the same scooter. Fixing to order one today.

Barnone, be sure to post in this thread who you bought it from, your experience with them, and most importantly, the mandatory photos of your new scoot!
I look forward to seeing it.

Thanks for the picture tiger, that's the first time I have seen one of those with the body panels off. Thanks xs650 but like I said before I stole that pix from mhan's PDI thread, luckily before he emptied his photobucket ;D. His PDI was great, I PM'ed him about restoring it but I guess the editing was way to extensive since he had a ton of pixs. Compare that to mine (YUK )and you see why I used his lol. SCOOTER PORN. barnone please do the PDI since this is the least stressfully scooter to PDI but the most dangerous if you don't. If you have the extra cash (Like 20 bucks) change as many bolts as you can but especially those floorboard & foot-peg bolts. Other than that I wish you the best of luck and happy scooting. Oh and don't overlook what usfmarine said/asked for, WE LOVE PIXS HERE. Plus it would help other Dawgs in our position doing research. Tiger.

Hey Tiger, The HD200 is a great ride. I've put 700 miles on her in two weeks and she is doing just fine. Aded a Bestem 42 liter top box since the under seat storage is lacking. Also added magnetic drain plugs to the engine and transmission. First scooter for me after 50+ years of riding motorcycles. Don't know why I waited so long. Hey guys thanks for all the info first of all.. so i have had mixed reviews and am new to scooters. I was tempted to go pick one of these up asap but heard they had problems.. so far the majority of you guys seem to like yours and have made me switch my mind back to getting it. I have found a few places in LA that sell them around $1200-1300.. so i just read a few PDI's and am completely retarded when it comes to anything mechanical..does anybody know places in LA where i can get proper work done without getting scammed. I want to make sure it lasts and wont be able to tell whether they did anything or not. Anyways .. i will post pics of mine when i buy it.

Guys, I have two of these Big Ruckus Clones and I like them a lot. I originally bought one new and liked it so well I bought another new one "just in case." Both are now rejetted and muffler and exhaust have been changed. They still aren't fast and ran a GPS tested 59mph on a level highway with no cars around and no wind to help. I weigh about 225 so that should give you some idea as to speed. Variator and weights are stock. They seem slow when new but speed will improve after about 1000 miles. Paid $1500 new and Calif. lic and tax was $240. TWOSCOOTS.

What Up? I bought My Rowdy Last year in November & Honestly, Yes I've had my share of small issues here and there But even so.. I gotta say It's Power/Performance makes up for it all. It's Just like it is Encouraged All over this Forum - *Do the full PDI as soon as you get it. *Ensure/Secure & Double Check All your Screws, Nuts & Bolts nice & tight. *Take it easy for the First 30-50miles to allow the engine to properly break-in and More Importantly..... *Enjoy it. All that is pretty much standard procedure with ANY Chinese Scooter you buy.
I can't refer you or recommend anyone to help you service your Scoot Since I'm not a "I gotta take it to someone else" type of guy. I've done everything needed on mine. I started out like you too. Little to almost No Knowledge what so ever about What was what and what went where etc. etc. etc. & tho still not a pro.... I can say I would, at least, know what to do or what to check for in case I ever get stuck. Anyhow, Since I stay out in LA too.... I'd be more than happy Giving you a hand On yours; If you wanted. Just Lemme know (Or Any of the Peeps here can also assist you or answer any questions. Plus, they're Far more experienced too) ;-D
Best of the Best of Luck to you Kix!! Post Pics if you get it (or of whatever you get)
