Hi All: I sold my Kymco People S200 scooter 3+ years ago. I loved it, but thought I wanted a motorcycle. I purchased a brand new Suzuki TU-250X a few years back: www.suzukicycles.com/en/Product%20Lines/Cycles/Products/TU250X/2012/TU250X.aspxNow...I want to go back to a scooter. I live in a seacoast community (Gloucester, MA.) & just want to cruise a few miles w/o having to shift gears. I only put on like 600+ miles a year because my wife & I own a boat & that come 1st everytime! I should have never sold my Kymco, but lesson learned. I checked out the new Kymco's but they are priced so high with fuel-injection etc. I have a SYM dealer like 20 miles away & looked @ the HD200 here: alliancepowersports.com/models/HD.htmlIt looks like a real nice scooter for $3499.00 Plus the dealer will give me 10% off & this weekend is a tax-free sales in Mass. Liquid-Cooled, Twin-Disc Brakes, Two-Year Warranty etc. What do you guys think? I remember when I was looking around for a scotter years back, people have nothing but good things to say about SYM. Any insight?

WOW...You guys rock! Many thanks for the insight! As I recall...Don't most of you guys purchase Chinese Scooters & work on them yourselves? Glad I posted here. Looks like I may score the SYM HD200. What do you guys think? Soild scooter for the coin?

Sym scooters are Taiwanese and of vastly superior quality than their Chinese counterparts. I own the HD200 and love it. I have an aftermarket Arrow exhaust and easily get up to 70mph.

Thanks everyone! I know Taiwanese scooters very well (Kymco, TGB, Genuine & SYM) They cost more & I know they are worth it! I just purchased a new SYM HD200 EVO in a Charcoal Grey this morning (I wanted Red) but they only had Yellow, Orange & Black & Grey. Got 10% off & no sales tax. HD 200 @ 3499.00 Freight & Set Up $199.00 OTD Price of $3328.20 Not bad @ all IMHO. They even let me throw it on my Visa Credit Card (I get the points!) I'll pay the tab when the bill comes in. So...my savings account takes a little hit! Now I need to sell my 2009 Suzuki TU-250X! I'm back in the scooter world again! It will be nice just to jump on with a pair of sandles & not worry about gears anymore! Below you'll see the different colors. What do you guys think of the Dark Grey? alliancepowersports.com/models/HD_photos.html

The Titanium grey is very classy! The HD 200 is one very fine , well built machine - 15+ horsepower, smooth and quick...I have 18500 mi on mine now - changed the belt @12,000 mi and put in Dr Pulley sliders (3, 16gr and 3, 18gr) runs like a champ. Mine is the 2008 and does not have the rear disc like the new ones...

I sold SYM HD200's in a previous life and found them to be a well made, nice riding scooter. If I recall they are a 170cc bore.

Just a tip: For $3500 you could get a real nice used Honda Reflex 250 or a decent Burgman 400. I would definitely go that route instead of dealing with the headaches of the cheaper scoots.

Agreed - I fully think Sym and Kymco are pretty much on par with Japanese brand scooters. Doesn't Kymco make engines for Honda?

Just a tip: For $3500 you could get a real nice used Honda Reflex 250 or a decent Burgman 400. I would definitely go that route instead of dealing with the headaches of the cheaper scoots. 1st: Thanks for everyone's insight & making me feel good about my new purchase. I will be picking it up tomorrow. I knew SYM was an excellent name, just that I had a Kymco People S200 (Same exact body style) I'm kind of pumped that it does have a rear disc brake. Red is my favor color, but I think the Titanium Grey will grow on me, plus I saved a decent amount of coin. Origjoker: I'm not a fan of the Reflex or Burgman. Too low for my tastes, plus I feel like you could eat a bowl of popcorn while riding one of those. You sit too far back IMHO. Never cared for that "look" On the other hand....I love to 16" Tires & the upright riding position of the HD200. It looks kind of "sporty" to me. I owned my Kymco People S200 for 3 1/2 years & had one issue...The speedometer cable broke. Cost me like $35.00+ & it was a breeze to install. I attached a few pics from the dealer. Good people & they are willing to discount to get rid of their late summer inventory! PS: I guess you can only load one pic @ a time? Attachments:

Here is another quick pic. One thing I would like to mention, is I really liked when SYM used Silver Rims & not Black. Again...It's not the end of the world, but I prefer Silver. Does anyone know when Kymco & SYM changed over to Black Alloy Rims? The link below is for the Kymco People GT200i (Black Rims as well) www.kymcousa.com/showroom/scooters/peoplegt200i/index.htmlThat's a real nice scooter with 205cc & FI, but @ $4899.00? Seems so expensive to me. Attachments:

UPDATE: I went to collect my Grey HD200 & they said it was sold! I was like WTF...I gave you my CC over the phone! Gave them a $500.000 deposit. They said we have Yellow, Orange & Black for a choice. No dice I told them. Going to my Kymco dealer on Wednesday to complete a deal on a Kymco People GT300i here: www.kymcousa.com/showroom/scooters/peoplegt300i/index.htmlThe dealer said he would give me an extra $100.00 off....I said "No Way" The SYM dealer wasted my time! I went thru a huge hassle w/ my insurance company etc.... I should have went in person as did not! My Kymco dealer is like 8 miles away from my house. I didn' want to spend that type of money for a scooter, but the People GT 300i is what I'm going to get now.

They have Black & Silver in stock. Going with Silver. I like the SYM Titanium Grey much better, but that's done! I'm pissed-off as hell! I gave them a deposit & they sell my scoot? Bullsh!t. They are giving me a hard time about returning my money as well. Good thing I put it on my CC. At least this way I'm covered.
Anyway...I didn't want to spend that type of money for the Kymco. But the upside is that they'll give me $2000.00 for my Suzuki TU-250X. Brings the price down & I don't have to deal with selling her on my time. I have a good experience with Kymco in the past....So I think all will be good! It's FI & almost 300cc's so...I think I'll be happy.

Another quick update. The SYM dealer called me this morning & to apologize & offered me $100.00 discount (like he did yesterday) & said he could get me a Red HD200 within 7-10 days. I said fine.
Wanted Red all along. I just didn't want to sepnd $5400.00 on a scooter (Kymco People 300i) I never cruise of the highway, so the extra 100+cc's doesn't mean anything to me. The like it being FI vs. Carb, but not worth the extra coin IMHO. I'll post some pics once I take delivery.

The red HD is very nice - goes well with the red stiching on the seat and the red brake calipers... The HD 200 has one of the most reliable and long lasting engines out there. The 16" wheels make for a smooth but sporty ride. Very uncool for the dealer to sell your bike after a deposit was paid - a brand's reputation depends in part on the integrity of the dealership. The SYM USA distributor has been excellent in helping dealers to get established, but the dealer is the public face of the brand... You may want to check out the Sym Owners Forum as well - lots of good info. Both Kymco and Sym have built Hondas for the Taiwan market

Well...Once again I changed my mind. Purchased the Kymco GT300i this morning (Silver Color) They gave me $2000.00 trade for my Suzuki TU-250X motorcycle. $200.00 off the $5399.00 the retail price, but stuck me with a $375.00 freight & documentation fee! There is a semi-upside, they will store by scooter for the Winter for free (usually $75.00 a month) I own a home, but no garage. A couple of reasons I went with the Kymco vs. the SYM HD200? 1st...The Kymco dealer is so close to my home. Bought from them in the past & although they are not cheap, they have an excellent Service Dept. 2nd: So easy to give them my Suzuki TU-250X & roll that money into my Kymco. I hate selling anything & using Craig's List. Just made it easy. 3rd: At 6'1" & I'm 235 Lbs. (Yes...I'm a semi-fatso!) the Kymco seemed "roomier" too me. Plus..It's has a 12 Volt plug, Fuel-Injected & has 128 more cc's. They had a Gold colored GT300i (hideous color IMHO) there, so I could sit on it & get a feel for her. 4th: Although I'm not borrowing a lot of money, Kymco is offering 1.9% interest rate for 36 months. I'll have it paid within 18 months. So...Here is the bereakdown: $5399.00 (GT300i) $375.00 (Delivery & Doc Fee) $125.00 Promotional Interest Rate Fee (Nice of Kymco isn't it?) -$2000.00 (Trade for Suzuki) -$200.00 (Discount off List) Total Financed $3699.00 for 36 Months @ 1.9% I really didn't want to pay that much for a scooter, but in the end I think I did ok (aside from the fees) Big jump in HP from 15.3 (HD200) vs. Kymco @ 28.7HP. That's a pretty big jump. Anyway...The have a crated GT300i & I should be taking delivery early next week! I called the SYM dealer & asked if he ordered my HD200 in Red & his reply was "I'm ordering it today" I told him to cancel it. He wasn't happy that's for sure, but he sold mine earlier! Plus...He is in South Boston & I'm 35 miles away (wouldn't be easy for service) I'll be posting pics on the 250cc+ forum next week! Give a early review. PS: Here is a decent review I found here: www.motorcycle-usa.com/189/10034/Motorcycle-Article/2012-Kymco-People-GT-300i-First-Ride.aspx

Too bad they didn't have any GT200s.
It's $600 bucks cheaper and I read somewhere that it has 21hp.

When you're spending this type of money for a scooter, why not go the extra mile? I wouldn't even consider the GT200i, unless it was like $1200.00 less. Cycles 128 in Beverly, MA. had a Silver GT200i there, but the frame is much smaller.
