I'm sort of piggybacking a recent thread from the 50cc forum. I'm no mechanic, but not afraid to get my hands dirty and enjoy learning how these scoots work. I do all the basic maintenance stuff and usually only drive on nice(hot) days to work 15 miles, one-way. It's all stop and go riding, "no highways". I have a 2007 ZNEN 150 with 3500 chinomiles on it, and I've had 2 problems on it back to back this year. . .first replaced the clutch, no sweat, only $35 on ebay, some youtube vids and all your scootdawgs help, all good. Then the rear rim tore up. I thought the scoot was cooked. Since then, I have found a replacement rear rim ($65), once it's here I'll have to bring it to a bike shop for mounting and balancing. My fear is that there could be more problems ahead for this scoot, but with scootdawg and youtube I'm feeling pretty comfortable. I probably should join a motorclub for towing bikes, any suggestions? I can say I've had 5 years and 3000 trouble-free miles from just changing the oils and replacing the battery every year. I expect I should get a reserve CVT belt soon, what else can I expect going forward?

I have just over 15,000 miles on my China girl so far. I switched to full synthetic oil in the crankcase, at 1200 miles. I change the crankcase oil every 800 miles (roughly). The gear oil, about every 1500 miles. I switched to full synthetic on the gear oil just recently.

15k miles and no technical issues? That's fantastic!
few other questions I have on that: when or how often haved you changed brake pads? spark plug? adjusted valves? replaced air filter? roller/ weights replaced? how many times have you replaced the CVT belt? other "not so often" maintanance checks i forgot?

Alot has to do with the scooter. Some of them are really junk and made as cheap as the Chinese can make them. I have a motofino with 19,000 miles on it. I have adjusted the valves once so far. The spark plug is one of thode things that is onlya couple bucksso when your scoot starts to run rough check your plug first.
I run a uni filter on mine and check it if it needs cleaned I clean it if it needs changing I change it. Belts and rollers the same. I use sliders in mine just because I think they performer better. Use a good qaulity kevlar belt like Bando.
You are off to a great start with the synthetic oils I use motuels motorcyle oil and Moble 1 for gear.
good luck and also keep your torq drive lubricated or you will be replacing more belts

Yes. my 1960 Heinkel. My uncle gave it to my brother in 1971. We shared it. In 1982 I bought it from him for $50. He was pursuing a career in comics in NYC and my parents wanted it out, because they were moving. It had been sitting without parts for six years. I restored it in 1984 and drove it till 2002, when I damaged the head. This winter I fixed it again. It has been across the US and back and to Mexico, and has over 80,000 miles on it. I rebuilt the motor in 1985 and it still runs like new. I have a new Heinkel , a 1965 I bought in 1990, and have driven 20 years. They are fine old machines. Bought my first Chinese scooter last month. It's a 2004 Diamo Retro and I had no idea what to expect as I've owned regular motorcycles since 1963.
It had 13,500 miles on it and if I had found these great forums before I bought it, I would never had bought it as I've now read all the horror stories about Chinese scooters.
The owner was asking $950.00 for it and we came to an agreement for $650.00. I should have offered him in the $500.00 range! He said he had just installed a new drive belt.
I rode it home 75 miles, (I live very rural), and it ran pretty decent all the way home. As soon as I got it home I started working on it thanks to all the great info I found here and Fox' great tutorials on scooterforums.com.
I changed the oil to a 50/50, (petroleum/synthetic), blend and the gear oil to 100% synthetic. I also adjusted the valves, put in a new spark plug, new fuel filter, adjusted the brakes and also the carb.
One of the valves had about .03mm clearance and the other was somewhat within specs at about .07mm clearance. I set them both to .05mm.
All of this didn't make a huge difference in how the scooter ran but it did run somewhat better.
I've since put around 200 miles on it and there are no oil leaks and it continues to start right up, (after a couple of pulls on the throttle when cold), and I can easily reach 55-60 on straights and maintain 45 MPH on grades.
All in all, I'm pleased and I don't know if it having 13,500 miles when I bought it as a cursing or a blessing as maybe most of the bugs were already worked out or the worst is yet to come!
