Oil pouring out of newly assembled motor
« Thread Started on Jul 2, 2012, 8:25pm »

I put a new paper gasket against the crankcase, brand new cylinder head/valve body and new head gasket between, new piston. I forgot something somewhere. I started motor for the first time and oil came pouring out from somewhere behind the plastic covering. I guess next time I need to start it BEFORE putting the plastic covering on. The style I have has the gas tank on top of the valve head part and over the carb, it has zero access to anything, even if you strip all the plastic body off.
It did run nicely for a few seconds before I shut the motor off before the melt down from no oil started to occur.

Any ideas?

Did you put the Cam Chain Tensioner on and tighten it down?

I'm pretty sure I did.... I will be looking on the bench in the morning.
Seems like I did. I remember having to back the tensioner all the way to make it fit. I put two motors together in the last couple of days though....

Ha Ha !! How dare you accuse me of forgetting to put the tensioner in!!!

I only had enough time for a quick look yesterday. I was able to remove the bottom piece of plastic and get a idea what was happening.
Apparently as seen in the photo below there is a hole for maybe a oil pressure or temperature sensor?

Here is a picture of the old head and you can see that same hole is filled.

The hole was threaded, threw a bolt and washer on it. Everything is groovy now..... been on a small easy going test run and everything seems to be fine. With a new top end I need to break it in again.
I also removed the airbox assembly and went with a uni-filter. First thing I noticed is the throaty growling noise she makes, I like it. I'm curious with the new top end, carb is also new, and the uni-filter how she will do on the highway. We shall see....
