Hey gang, my SSR Motorsports ZNEN 150cc came in on Friday and I've finally had the time to slap on the handlebars and take some pictures. Next (hopefully this weekend) comes my PDI and tune up. Then get my license worked out and all that junk. For what it's worth I bought from powersportsmax.com and while I haven't called for my MSO paperwork the rest of the experience has been a joy. their website worked well (though it looks like it may not) and the scooter showed up when they claimed it would, in a week and a day. No damage, the delivery guy set it right where I needed it, and it's prettier than I expected. I'm super excited and nervous to ride it, which leads to a question... I've read the thread about doing the PDI and tuneup but I want to know if it'd be terrible to see if it fires up once I'm ready for it to, pre PDI and tuneup? I plan on doing that junk to it pretty much immediately, but I want to see if it goes and see how it sounds. Bad idea or ok for a minute or two?

DAWG... fire it up! Nice looking scooter!
I think the PDF stuff on this forum needs to be rewritten... some of it still applies, but some of it doesn't apply to newer 2010++ scooters
The quality of many things like hoses and wiring is much improved on the newer scooters.
Change the oil in a day or two...don't touch the tuning until you have a few hundred miles on it.
Enjoy!!

As long as you change out the oil first, you should be OK to fire it up. You might help ID any rattles or loose bolts/bodywork. Looks nice!

Nice little (big??) scooter man. I agree drop the oil or at least check to make sure it really is oil. Then let 'er rip. I hope it brings you many trouble free miles. Love it and lube it and you'll be fine.

oh and FYI the mirror work a lot better positioned with the long side parallel to the ground rather than the way you have em. Its a wider view and easier to use. At least that's how I like them

that's course its znen. its the same factory my bms came from. znen does a decent quality control better then most china scoots. i whent with bms being they pdi it again even before the dealer gets it. so by the time my z-roar was on the road it was looked over 4 times the last being by me.

Such lovely replies! Thanks gang!
I checked the oil today and it looked like oil, but I didn't smell or feel it. I'm really pleased with how it looks. It may be a bit small for me (I'm 6'4") but I kinda already expected to look a bit ridiculous. I also filled my battery so it'll be good to go for tomorrow when I get my charger. Should be running Saturday!
scootnwinn, thank you for the mirror tip, I'll look at them to understand better what you are talking about... Do you mean just turning the mirrors themselves down or rearranging the shaft position?

Heh, Ok, give me a couple days. I sat behind my 5 year old boy on it today and leaned against the backrest and it was surprisingly comfy from back there... And still seemingly rideable.

Do more than check the oil - change it out - factory oil has a notorious reputation....

scootnwinn, thank you for the mirror tip, I'll look at them to understand better what you are talking about... Do you mean just turning the mirrors themselves down or rearranging the shaft position? Basically just turn the actual mirror part 90 degrees out on both sides everything else is fine. So on the right side 90 degrees clockwise and on the left 90 degrees counter clockwise. You will definitely have a wider field of view. Enjoy the scoot!

Sons of fishes! The scooter is fun! I got 'er fired up last night for some illegal 'hood riding and while being semi-terrifying, it's a really good time! The manufacturer suggests staying under 25mph for like 300 miles or something which is a bit rough, luckily 25mph feels like a million mph. The scooter is tiny to ride and feels really fast. It started up with no trouble, it was a bit rough to start with, but then it warmed up and was running beautifully. The horn scared the crap out of me when I accidentally hit it instead of turn signals, it's super loud! I'm afraid the scooter is like crack. I'm already hooked. Here's my latest question, is it normal to feel a bit embarrassed while riding it? I feel like a goofy kid, granted I was expecting that, but still... Here's what a 6' 4" dude, namely me, looks like on it:

Heck yeah! The first time I got it 20mph felt plenty fast to me. Be sure to get a helmet and wear gloves, long sleeves a jacket etc.
In time you'll feel more comfortable on it. Look online for a Motorcycle Safety Foundation class - well worth the money!

Most of the people that talk to me when riding love the idea of a scooter, no need to feel goofy! America is finally coming around to the idea of smaller economical bikes. The big auto manufactures spend billions a year on research to get 45 mpg, we pay 1-2k for 70-100 mpg, Congrats.

Yeah.. just so you know... most of the odometers are in kilometres NOT miles... so your MPG is likely false unless you do the math or use a GPS...
I have never seen a stock GY6 that got over 80 mpg without a hole in the piston from running too lean...

yeah i was putting the 50's in there with the mpg, 70 being the majority of 150's ( that's close to what i get, but im pretty hard on the throttle).

Yeah, with my 125 (with over 8000 miles or 13000 kilometers) on the clock, I average around 50MPH or 80kms/h. Ok granted, I weigh about as much as an annorexic 13 year old (hence the nick), but it's a helluva lot of fun, so I constantly ride with a grin stretching from ear to ear.
Enjoy it man, have a blast but be safe.

Woohoo! If everything goes as planned I'll be getting my temp. license tomorrow, then I just have to wait for my mso paperwork to show up so I can get title and tags, Hopefully I'll be a legal rider by like next week.

Things didn't go as planned and I did not get my temps today, I'll try again tomorrow!
New question: How long do you ride around on a new scooter before you trust taking it farther from home? I've only ridden maybe (but probably not) a mile away, partly because I'm unlicensed but also partly because I'm terrified of it breaking down once I'm farther away and leaving me stranded. Is that just the risk? I understand that there is always a similar risk in the car I drive all the time, but I have room to plan for that with a spare tire or a toolbox or whatever. I'm seeing all you guys with thousands of miles on a scoot so I assume you just giddyup, right?

Don't let all the negative talk on here mess with your head. Change your oil regulaly (for a new bike like yours maybe every 200miles for the 1st 1000) check all your nuts bolts and fasteners everyday and the oil, and pay attention, listen for changes and notice when things are different. You do this and you have little to worry about. There are lots (I mean really a whole freakin bunch) of Asian dudes running scooters like yours and to them its the equivalent of a Cadillac (it sure beats walkin or pedaling a bicycle) so enjoy it, ride it that's what its for and if it breaks put it in your pocket and walk home Seriously they aren't hard to push if need be. You'll want to start with short trips while you break it in any way. Gradually expand your range and you'll learn to trust it

Hi I purchased mine in milford about 12 miles away from home So my first ride was roughly 30 miles as i had to take the long way home Since then i have riden her as far away as 100 miles at a time she seems to like long steady cruising miles over stop and go Btw i ride her like i stole her Hard breakings are best imho Take care Yours Hank
