 exhaust rattle
« Thread Started on Jan 21, 2011, 3:22am »

Sorry for being so long but its been awhile since ive been on here.
scooter: 2008 chuanl adventure 150cc limited edition
My scoot has 2100mi on it. I adjusted the valves 2 days ago. there were both closed and could not get a feeler in there, set them to .004 intake and .005 exh. changed oil and checked belt- found a lot of belt dust in there and still original belt. when should i change it? still looks good no cracks. but now my exhaust rattles. ill back up, 2 months ago i had to replace the swingarm and exhuast due to the head pipe cracking all the time. ( note to all chuanl adventure 150 owners your exhuast WILL break, the design of the swingarm and mounts puts way to much stress on the head pipe, you need to replace the swingarm and exhuast to the style that everyone else has, not sure of models but its the exhuast that is 2 pieces 1 head pipe that bolts to a silver muffler and it has 2 clamps that go around it.) any ways, wi that silver muffler it looks like the silver part is just the canister. it sounds like its rattling out of the tail peice. is the muffler rattling inside the canister? can i tack weld the muffler to the canister to get it to stop? please help its been running good for 2 months now( knock on wood)

Change your belt now. It could last another 1000 miles or break tomorrow!

>>>is the muffler rattling inside the canister?

Yup. Live with it or buy a new one. Probably the baffles have rusted through... but check to be certain it is that chrome guard rattling...

I know those stock 150 mufflers are a joke. I took mine off just after 600 miles and when I gave it a shake it sounded exactly like a baby rattle. Those things rust from the inside out so easily and I never even rode in the rain lol just moist air alone destroyed it.

Thanx guys i found the problem, when i took my scoot to adjust the valves at my friends house we loaded it in the truck and as you all now there is no where to pick this thing up at and ( he wont tell me but im pretty sure he did) the rear mount for the rear clamp on the muffler broke and that was making the rattling noise. noticed it when i got to work and took it off. rode home and rattle free. do i absolutly have to have both or am i ok with just the one?

Two is better. With just the front clamp more of the weight of the muffler is placed on the exhaust pipe and the exhaust manifold.

Clamps are cheap...
