125cc of bad-ass to Carters Dam!

“Frak it!” That is what I said as I looked out the window and saw thunder clouds scattered around and heard an ominous roll of thunder in the distance. My mind was made up; I was going to the damn dam. So I pushed the cat off of the windowsill as pay back for waking me up at 4AM for no apparent reason other than for the hell of it, and hit the door. Carters Dam is about 45 miles away and is the tallest earthen dam east of the Mississippi.
There is a saying in Georgia that if you don’t like the weather, wait twenty minutes.

I was in and out of rain every five minutes or so….

Finally the guard shack!

sh!t someone is actually in it….I usually just buzz on through and never put money in the little box, The Corp Of Engineers usually rely on the honor system. While I do have a certain amount of moral scruples, it is a very small amount.

So I pulled up and stopped, acted surprised that they didn’t take debit cards and tried to look as pathetic as possible….it is easy to look pathetic when you are sitting on a 125cc scooter in a thunderstorm. The nice lady took pity on me and gave me this and I was on my way!

Some sort of something’s….frack if I know! They look cool and made me feel like I was riding my scoot through a Terminator movie.

Riding the scoot across the dam…it is a big dam and the weather made it seem all the better!

You can see me in the distance contemplating rather I should put an umbrella in with the rest of the pointless crap I carry on my scoot.

This is a genuine North Georgia fjord.

There was a sign that said no stopping on the damn, but I am a bad-ass and stopped for some photos anyways. It was raining pretty hard so the scenic shots are not that great.

I was headed back and saw a sign that said Regulatory Dam…that sounded like my kind of dam so I checked it out…It was freakin’ fantastic!

These guys were using a net to catch fish. I asked them about it and the older one started going into a long rant about how you had to throw certain fish back and how they used to catch so many more until the Guatemalans started fishing there. I didn’t detect any distain in his voice, just stating a fact I suppose…”done been fished out” is what he said. I could smell alcohol on him and that reminded me that I needed to pick up some beer.

I did not see any feral cats but I asked the fellows with the net about it. They said most of the fishing is done at night and that’s when the cats come out and everyone feeds them fish.

On the way back I noticed the most pathetic attempt at a monument or whatever it was supposed to be. So I stopped to admire the details. Four Bald eagles on pedestals surrounding a flag pole with no flag This was probably hastily put together during the surge in nationalism that occurred right after 9/11… America, frak yeah!….Welcome to Ranger Georgia. Of course I wanted to be in the pic with the eagles. So I set up my camera.

FRAK! I only have ten seconds until the timer goes off, I better haul ass!

It was worth the hauling of ass! Look how bad-ass I look with the eagles!

That’s it really, I got rained on a bit more and bought some beer….the end.
