First picture is me on my new scooter.  The next are of a GPS mount I rigged up. No permanent changes to the scoot. Just replaced the two phillips head bolts on top of the handlebars with bolts that were a bit longer to allow for the mount.  It's a standard Garmin suction cup mount that I modified slightly. Crazy Glue on the swivel arm to keep it from moving and a small screw through the center of the ball mount to, again, keep it from moving. The small screw also helps relieve my worries that it will pop off on a rough road.  And finally, an angle view to give a little better idea of how it's mounted.  Someone with time to kill and a desire (and the tools) to make it pretty would shape that black plastic block a bit to make it conform better to the contours of the steering column. I may do that later but I really don't have the proper tools to shape plastic. (Nor the talent, as far as that goes!) |

Looks to be a version of the MC-54 250cc. Used to have one myself. Still have the pic in my sig.

Man.... sorry for the delay. Been busy and haven't been on for a while.
Currently I'm using the gps battery as my scoot doesn't have a 12v socket.
I'm planning to install a 12v socket, there's a place for it inside the glove box, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet. It'll probably get done this winter, along with a few other things I want to tweak while I'm waiting for the temps to go back up.
My gps, a Garmin NUVI 350, lasts about an hour and a half to two hours on battery so it's not really been an issue for me yet. I ride mostly within an hour or so of home but I do intend to fix that since there has been a time or two that the screen went dark before I made it back. I like to have it with me mostly for those times when the pavement runs out....makes it a bit easier to decide if that gravel road in front of me is short enough to risk or if I want to just turn around and go back the way I came.

howdy, nice mount. about the battery ya might also turn it on to get the immediate route and shut it off till you have completed that section. then fire it up to acquire another phaze. etc. then the battery might last long enough for ridin' a right smart piece as an oky might say.

Thanks  Actually, another reason I ride with it is for the speedo. The scoot's speedometer gets more inaccurate the faster I go and at highway speeds it's off by around 10mph. The GPS lets me know how fast I'm _really_ going which is helpful considering the ticket-happy police officers we have in this part of the world. It's not a problem on the fast roads, I do well to cruise at 70, but I often find I'm doing 60-65 in a 55 zone if I don't watch myself. Seems to be a sweet spot in the power band...it just plain likes 60mph. |

I use my Garmin ETrek for accurate speedometer readings. The Wally World velcro approach
works for me on all 5 of my rides. My Tank 250 is 5 mph faster on the speedo than it is really
doing by GPS. 70mph is actually 65 mph.
