 used peace sports scooter
« Thread Started on Feb 1, 2012, 6:26pm »

OK so i just got a 2008 peace sports 50cc scoot off of cl for 100 bucks it was all complete but for one small plastic side panel. anyway i got it home and started to take it apart to fix the problems that i knew about from the first look at it. after a few days of checking and such i found water had gotten in the tank and the carb. i cleaned the tank and fixed the fuel lines. i cleaned out the old card but it was to far gone to save. on the up side i did get the little scooter to run for a minute with the bad carb. next i ordered a new carb. put in a new spark plug and battery. and that's where i stand as of now. ill be out tomorrow working on it. so any advice about these little scooters from people who know them would be wonderful.

sorry for the long read but could not make it any shorter :)

um
i am NOT a mech

but
change oil and gear oil & plug
if it still has the china gas & vacum lines -- get rid of em
adjust ur valves!!

if u wanna -- check each and every bolt
also i would check every electrical connection
that is if u have it { him/her} stripped down pretty good
it will be easier now , when stripped down,
then after u get it all togather.

and like i said
dont be afraid to ask questions
even really dumb a*s ones, :o
u should have seen some of the 1st ones i asked

hope it runs when u get it togather

Listen to our "not so dumb" blonde!

Replace anything that that squeaks. Basically, all the rubber (hoses and such) and fluids. If you need a new panel (or a very used one as I have bunches) then give me a shout.

Oh, and adjust the valves.

UPDATE: I went over every nut bolt and washer as well as i could and everything seems to be good . i got the carb working but still trying to tune it a little more. so all and all my little 100 dollar scooter seems to working out to be an ok deal. the valves where way to tight when i went to check on them. i still have to change out the gear oil and motor oil. so all and all it was a very productive day.

;D
NICE SCOOT ;)

and the price was ok, i take it ???

i scour my & close by CL's all the time.
but i get the opposite
not running, but $1,500 ???
wtf ?

it's cool that now & then
we get a $100 scoot story
that ends up being cheap to run & fix
and brightens someone's life ;D

price wise if i had gotten one used the best price i found was 350 cash and no real explanation as to how well it ran or anything. after that they go up to 5 and 600 or more so the price was awesome. and yes it made my month.

It's one nice scooter. I can get you a replacement lock set if you need one. I can also get you any body parts you need. I have several old ones I'm parting out so I can get you the parts cheaply.

You could get a bicycle style mount that has a circular clamp that goes around the handlebar. However, most plastics get in the way of something like that.

The brake lever mount with integrated side mirror mount is actually fairly cheap. In the $15-$20 range, cheaper if you get one off a wrecked scooter. If you send me a pic of what you need I'll see what I have.

Not bad for a $100.00 scooter now you have it running.

Not bad at all.

Humm i wounder.. it is a peace sports -- 63cc?

Although, it's not a %100 way to tell, but Greg posted something in the line as to check to see if it has the 5B or 6B stamped on it.
Take a look.

hello again, as far as your question about the block numbers it says 6b on the back and 1p39qmb by the kick stand. i have not taken off the head to check the bore but going by forum postings it may well be a 63cc rather than 49.9cc. it runs well but i could tell right away that the carby needed bigger jets. to that end i ordered them a few days ago and just got them today. weather permitting i will try to get them installed and let you all know how it goes.

Yep, it's a 63 so the stock carb is most likely for a 50. You need to go up at least 2 sizes on the main jet and get a 35 for the idle. The idle is probably smaller than that (unmarked). The main jet is probably unmarked too. I'd go with a #78 or #80 main jet.

thanks for the advice i did go with the 35/80 set up just by guessing that might be about right. the parts are cheap so if i am wrong it wont kill me lol. its cold as can be here at the moment so it might be a few days before i find out anything. i will say that i have had more fun just working on this little scooter than i have had in a long time. i just found another one on cl here for 125 that needs some work so might be looking at getting it for my wife. just have to wait and see how it goes

Well the 125 most certainly will require it to be tagged and licensed as a motorcycle. Hope she has a motorcycle endorsement on her license.

yet another update: i got the new jets installed in the carb today. it made all the difference in the world. starts easy when cold idles very well and has great throttle response. when i got the old factory idle jet out it had some flash around the hole that was restricting fuel flow. so over all another little success. just a few more parts to go and ill be done with the running part of this resto its been very fun and educational also. greg shoot me a pm with the price for that lock set please wanting to know how much i will need. thanks you all for your help and time. it has made this job a lot easier.

ok a few questions that i am not sure about right off. my scoot has 3.00/10 tires on it. can i go with anything bigger or what is a way to find out/ second is there a point where is is just to cold to start a 50cc. in regards to motor damage is why i ask. i looked around but dident really find anything. i had it running today and it was only 30.f out side but anything colder than that makes me a little leary of running it.

ok
well

not sure
but
yesterday the high , here near Pittsburgh,
was 16 degrees F.
i turned on my lil heater
and got the 'tent garage' a bit warm -for me-not her
she started and ran fine
I ran her around the block, after warming her up for 10 mins
many times to see if i could get it to backfire , again.
well it didnt , so i dont know if i miss heard the other day
or what.

but as long as u let her warm up slowly, to get to normal operating
temps, w/o over rev'ing it , i dont think it will hurt

but then again
wait till the "experts' chime in ::)

Good to see you got a 63cc.. Or at least with the B6,1p39Qmb stamped and the need to up jet the stock jet in the carb, you more then likely do.

As far as temp goes.. No problems with my scooter at 12 Deg (not including windchill).

If you leave it outside do buy a scooter cover or tarp to cover it up and you'r scooter will be fine.(going on 3 years myself)

Wow, $100.00 bucks for a scooter and a 63cc to boot.
I'm telling ya that it doesn't get much better then that kinda deal around the Columbia area but i do see a few china scoots that run one summer, something stops working on them and the kid's sell them because they don't know what to do to them or doin't know where or how to get parts.

Sure you can go down to one of 2 places that will fix it for you.

Now Mark down at reliant power-sports repair in Columbia will work on it, but he will not cut you any slack on repair time (book time) and he will let you know.
Good Guy really and not a china scooter hater, He's a repair shop that has bills to pay and that's it.
Now if ya had something simple like a A/F mix adjustment or buy a spark plug from him (if he has one) and your nice about it, he might just help if he's not in the middle of something.
