I'm looking at a Tomos Nitro 50, but I can't seem to find too many reviews for it. Does anybody have any suggestions?? I searched the forum as much as possible before posting this, but couldn't find anything so I'm turning to the people that know best.
The price is right around my budget and I understand I'll eventually want to upgrade in a few years, but to start out I feel like everything looks good with it. I just need a commute to work (5 miles) type.

I dont think you can go wrong with a European manufactered scooter. That compamy has been around a long time.

the Tomos scooters are from China, the mopeds are (kinda) from Europe. make sure the dealership is good, as someone in the 150 forum is having trouble atm with one and the dealership is no help with the warranty.

From what I've seen Tomos scoots are made by SYM. At least the keys say SYM on them.

Maybe SYM subbed out the manufacturing of the Tomos scooters to Znen. In with my owners manual is a fancy "certificate of quality" with the Model, Engine #, VIN, Date and Inspector stamp from SYM that states "The motorcycle described above is manufactured by our company and passed quality inspection.".
Whoever made it, it looks like they did a good job. We picked ours up last night after looking a quite a few others. It was able to get my fat carcass up to 35 mph with a headwind. I guess time will tell how well it holds up. 15 miles is a little too soon to tell.

SYM does own the Xiamen Xiashing Motorcycle Co. Ltd. in china maybe the L5Y WMI# can be applied to that company too. not sure if that is where yours is from as weve been trying to nail down who is actually making the Tomos bikes and Znen is the closest we can get.
can you post a pic of the MFR plate?

can you post a pic of the MFR plate? I'll do that tonight. (wife's out ridin' right now) I'll also scan some of the other documents. I'd like to know as well. I'm considering the 150 for me. Although I like the looks and size of the Chironex Legend 150 (150 version of the VOG 260). It's tough to search for VOG, SYM, etc, when the search requires 4 or more characters.

Xiamen Xiashing it is. Certificate of Quality Mfg Plate (under rear fender) Importer Emission Decal (below handlebars) This is a Canadian scoot, but all Canadian Tomos bikes are imported from Tomos USA by Tomos Canada.

Thanks to everybody that has helped out on this. I'm going to buy my scoot next week and am just trying to narrow down my choices. I'm also looking at a Keeway Hurricane 50. Does anybody have any experience with any of these?? The dealer is offering a year parts/labor warranty.
Anything I buy will be locally, so I'll have some service here in town.
Thanks again for any help and Happy Father's Day to all that it applies to.

yes, SYM does own that company (Xiamen Xiashing) we'll get LXM added to the list! thanks for the pics, that shows that the L5Y WMI# we were given previously was wrong (unless some are from different factories). i thought we'd have to wait for the SYMply and Vogue to verify the # (my prediction is that they are from this factory too)
if you feel like it.... next time youre in there see if all the bikes have the same WMI#.

Please forgive my ignorance, but does this make it a better deal then?? Since SYM owns the company?? I understand SYM is a top tier manufacturer, but does the fact that they own the company make the Tomos Nitro any different?? Thanks.

while i cant personally vouch for what bikes are rolling out of this factory ... this is probably one of the few Chinese scoots id take a chance on. if youve got Tomos and SYM backing these and a good moped shop selling them, i think you might be pretty safe.
no one seems to have had one long enough to tell if theyre really good or not, i guess id look at them like the Geo Metro of SYM atm (thats not necessarily a bad thing). i do believe that the Vogue and SYMply models are coming from the same factory and theyre supposed to be top notch, but they arent here yet.

The Nitro 150 is confirmed to be a "LXM" Xiamen Xiashing, as expected.
No dealers near me that carry the Velo.

Is this Tomos Nitro 50cc equivalent to the GY6? Im looking at mods for boosted speed (variator maybe). I have nitro 50cc, its great so far, just want to take it over 30mph and I only seem to be getting someting in the 50mpg range.
