 SOUP up 50cc scooter?
« Thread Started on Aug 18, 2012, 10:00pm »

I was talking to a friend from Hawaii and he told me that they fix up their 50cc scooters to do like 80mph-100mph!!! Now I'm not asking to go that fast but what minor adjustments or even major adjustments can i do to gain some speed on my 50? It goes 40-45 on a flat surface now but i wouldn't mind a little more boost. Any suggestions?

I think there's a whole forum dedicated to that kind of stuff, or so I've heard.

For more speed you'll want to concentrate on higher gearing since 45 will be you topping out your gearing- and also more power- because it takes power to turn higher gearing.

You aren't going to be seeing no 80-100 unless you are force induction or putting a motorcycle engine in the thing. It's a 50- get a bigger bike.

People spend ridiculous money to claim 65 on a 50cc let alone what you are led to believe.

Haha I love how a 2T is simpler to work on and more fun to ride . Look up 70cc scooter and Porsche as they race around a track I do not have the url handy

You can get some more speed than stock but only a lil bit . If you over tweak it it will not last .

80 to 100 mph ??/ Wow ! More like kilometers but even that is stretching it

Nope! I saw the vids! they were doing wheelies and everything! I have a 150 250 and souped em up like a motorcycle, its just fun to make slow go fast when your not suppose to. Besides the coppers dont have a clue about scooters down here so you show them where it says 50cc and they leave you alone no matter how fast ur going! lol

Has got be KMH...not MPH....I have a highly modded 'super duper' 2 stroke Joway Wasp..Max for it is 54 mph...but I do not ride at wot very often. No tach..but I am guessing by ear...that she is winding up around 10,000 rpm....surely cannot be good for the engine. Not sure on the limit for 2 strokes....but 10,000 seems a bit high. But 80-100 mph??? Not even the Drag bikes they run at the speedway here...will hit that... ::)

What are you guys talking about? 100mph is easy on a 50cc scooter.

All I do is put it in the back of my Dodge truck and drive 100mph down the interstate. Easy enough.

oooooh, where can I get one of these?! Honestly as been said before I'm sure a couple of thousand times, If you want to go 60+ MPH, just get a scoot with a larger displacement engine.

I have found, by way of researching posts here (thanks guys) that you can indeed increase performance of a 50cc 4T, but to expect anything more than 5-10 MPH increase in top end speed is probably not realistic or too expensive to warrant doing IMO.

A 50cc 4T scoot is what it is. Swapping out variator weights, limited CDIs, installing a hotter coil and Iridium plug provided me snappier acceleration and about 5MPH gain in top end speed in my 50cc scoot. I am also going to install an aftermarket carb with a slightly bigger bore, free flow air cleaner and either modify my stock exhaust or pick up a performance exhaust to complete my mods. Yep, I have been bitten by the mod the scoot bug, but no way do I want or expect 60 plus MPH... That's just me though.

I would skip the larger carb...as most have found that...bigger carb allows more air...you run lean...and MUST upjet....and really shows no improvement on a stock engine....it is just over kill. Try an 80cc(72 actual) Better take of....higher speed....as the extra torque it provides allows your stock heavy roller weights to fully reach their potential....vice bogging and loading the engine as they are designed with stock weights...so it can only reach 30-35 mph. You will be surprised at how much speed you gain with the Big Bore Kit. All the parts you mentioned are nice...but not on a stock 50cc...."There is no replacement...for displacement"... 8-)

Interesting , the worlds fastest scooter here http://www.gizmag.com/go/6632/ does a lil 120 and its a 850cc v twin . Even a 2T would need an ACME jet pack like earlier stated . Now you can spend a fortune for a 2T racing engine and zoom but unsure of 100 MPH http://adrenalinpedstop.blogspot.com/201....0cc94cc-2t.html or http://www.spmotostore.com/Complete_engi....ngine-16701.htm

Post a video of them please !!!!

Must be a 90cc 2T which if tuned may hit 1000 with a few grand in it or cheat with nitrous http://www.boostinductionsystems.com/bis-racing_home_046.htm

With a Uni , a 19mm carb , single ring piston and expensive pipe you can laugh as you pass cars . Stock cranks should never go over 10k rpms , so a forged racing one should be installed. Some of them can get as high as 18k rpms , wow . A 72cc or 47.6mm BBK is the best way to get more power and it will need a pipe that matches the porting and the carb tuned for it . I like Air Sal kits http://www.mhr-usa.com/70cc-scooter-moped-cylinder-kits/40mm/ or this screamer http://www.spmotostore.com/Cylinder_kit_..../s6-7419502.htm . Stock exhaust will choke it so you have to dig deep for a racing one .

What size tires do you have ? I hope its not 10s . My 2T uses 130/60/13s and wow the ride is better and can get tires rated up to 93 MPH around 50 a piece . 10s its hard to find above 52 MPH tires

Not haters...just experience...total it all on this forum...probably well over 5,000 years experience trying to go faster... Also...with my calculations...using the 2 most common Minarelli stock gear ratios...to reach 80-100 mph....your engine would have to be turning 15,000-18,000 rpm. Does yours rev that high...check it on the centerstand and let us know.. ::)

Thanks for the advice. I already have the hotter coil, Iridium plug, and performance CDI installed. I got my 4 gram rollers in the mail yesterday, Installed today.. big improvement! These simple mods give me faster acceleration, better uphill pull and overall a gain of near 10MPH on the flats.

Pretty happy right now. I'm not sure about the BBK.. I mean, I could do it, but.. I'd be afraid of getting pulled over and getting my scoot impounded.

tempting though!

To be honest, check your tire pressure. I was running a little slow for a few days and kept going over my stuff and couldn't figure out what was going on. Something told me to check the tire pressure because I've heard it could mess with your speed. Sure enough, I was only registering 17psi on the front and 16psi in the back; both of which have a max psi of 36. I put some air in them until they were at about 32-35ish and hit the road. Believe it or not, I noticed a HUGH difference. I really never thought it mattered that much and I'm no physicist but I could tell a nice positive difference. I'm not talking like 10+mph, I just mean it got back to normal.

Oh, and the difference between 12psi and 30psi (for example) just from trying the ole' hand mash or foot nudge on the tire is almost impossible to tell so make sure to use a gage. Don't go all 1950's garage dealer and just kick the dang tire and say, "Yup, shes all good!". Do it the right way, haha.

Good point...and VERY true....you would not believe how many come to my shop and say "It just started to lose speed in the past month..engine runs good though"...So I pump them up to 35 psi..they take a test ride...come back and say.."No way...that couldn't have been the problem"...even though they watched and all I did was air up the tires... ::) Soft tires create lots of drag..

Yea, haha. That's when you tell them, "Hey you know what? I just might know what the problem is. Let me take it in the back and tinker with it for a minute. (6 minutes later) All right! Here you go, take 'er for a spin, see how she rides now! (5 minutes later when the customer gets back all happy and whatnot) "Okay, that will be 50$ please".

...Totally kidding, but seriously... Joking of course, but you know what I mean... Yea...

Hey we have a shop in town....owned by wealthy man that owns about 1/4 of this resort beach front town. He does crap like that all the time at his shop...burned out bulb...blown fuse etc....he has them come back in hour or so and tells them it was a wiring issue and charges $75 an hour. I worked for him one day....then quit when I saw some of the crap they pulled on folks...I refused to do it...and opened my own repair/parts shop.People that buy scooters from him...come to us as many have caught on to his scam. Most of the town folks do not like him over his greed..not just with his shop...but the other businesses he owns. I despise dirt bags like that... >:(
