| | Replacing an EGR head with a non-EGR head. « Thread Started on Oct 10, 2010, 10:12pm » | |
As the title states I just replaced my head and the new one is non-EGR. I haven't started it yet because I'm waiting on the bigger jets for the carb, (also did 72cc BBK) so I was wondering.... Since the little EGR tube on the front of the valve cover no longer bolts to the flange on the head, do I need to block that tube off? Will it suck air back through that tube and cause a negative pressure issue in the crankcase? Anybody ever do this before and just leave the tube unattached? I will eventually order a non-EGR valve cover, but this project has depleted all my cash for the time being so I can't order a new one yet.

I have not done this (my bike has never had EGR), but having read how the EGR is supposed to be hooked up, you do want to plug/cap the disconnected tube(s) or you'll suffer a vacuum issue.
Don't confuse the EGR system with the valve cover vent; that still wants to be hooked up to the airbox intake, or a catch canister if you have replaced the airbox with high-flow.

When I did the Hoca Performance head it was non EGR and the original was EGR. No trouble with it for almost 1000 clicks on the chinameter.

I replace egr heads with non egr heads with no issues. Just make sure you plug the vacuum source to the canister.

Fired it up today before work. I just cut the tube, pinched it off, and JB welded it, problem solved. Thanks!!
