 Testing the CDI
« Thread Started on Aug 20, 2009, 1:45pm »

How do I do it? I did a couple searches but couldn't find anything about testing this piece. I searched the 2 manuals I have and nothing really mentioned on how to test it except mention of testing the resistances. So what values are supposed to be where and what leads do I check resistance between?

Quite frankly I have not found any specs on checking the CDI. It is one of these things that you check everything else and if they check good then replace the CDI. One of these it works or don't.

Make sure you have power to the CDI and make sure that the stator pickup is firing the CDI, one of the bullet type connectors coming from the stator, usually blue and yellow.

I did see a good detailed check on CSC forum. You could do a search on CDI and find it. Good luck!

The only way I know to test a cdi, is replace the suspected bad 1 with a known good 1, and if it fixes the problem then cdi is bad
It never hurts to keep extra parts around, like coils, cdi's, regulators etc for troubleshooting
