OK it seems to be running OK (for the moment anyway) so no to tackle the other issue. The left brake switch had a short from day one and quit working shortly after I bought it. Any suggestions on how I should attack this?

Well, the brake switch might need replacing. Sometimes when we all buy new scooters, there will be little things go wrong with it that need replacing. Chinese parts are not inspected like American parts, so there will be a much bigger chance of the part being faulty. Brakes are very important to have work properly. Charles

my left brake switch was burned out when I bought my scooter (used). I replaced it, but the replacement burned up just last week. I dont like the design of the switch, it makes for a region of high-resistance contact which heats up and melts the plastic parts.
I did notice that mine seems to be the same design I've seen on name-brand motorcycles. I'm wondering if I can go get a switch from a motorcycle dealer.

Well what I really meant is, where do I start on the bike? Is the switch near the lever or somewhere else?

Yes the switch is by the lever. When the lever is not squeezed, it is pushing the button for the brake switch. When you squeeze it lets the button pop out.

The switch is attached to the master cyclinder right under where the lever bolts to it. They usually have 1 screw holding them there screwed in from the bottom. It will have 2 wires hooked up to it. If you take it off you can test it with a multimeter by checking continuity between the two tabs that the wires hook to. With the little button pushed you should not have continuity between the two tabs and you should have continuity between the them when the button is not pushed.

Ya, why I said you needed a new brake switch, was because you want cars to be warned that you are slowing down. It is a little dangerous without it working. But you have a front brake also, that is working( so it is not totally dangerous). But still you want both brakes to work for safety reasons. Attachments:

Pulled the switch today and decided to pry it open, it had a little rust and I think the innards had moved around a bit. I ended up taking it apart, cleaning the rust off and putting it back together but operation is still spotty. So now I'm thinking it's maybe a short in the wires but the investigation continues.

I just ordered a left brake switch after trying to take original apart and mcgyver it to work but my man size fingers just can't get parts back. Would luv to see how they assemble those switches. Now waiting for part to arrive so scoot can pass safety inspection.

How do they assemble them? Haven't you ever heard of child labor? ;D j/k Once you figure out how it works you just have to take your time.

I've determined that the wiring doesn't have a short and the switch is just crappy. No matter how I've tried I can only get it to work sometimes. So I give up and I've ordered a new one.

Tried my local dealers here and unless you correctly cross reference it with a bike on their computer they won't even look at the original part. My switch arrives Wednesday. Quote from my local Suzuki dealer" there is no such thing as a OEM part that fits other bikes", duh! Welcome to MentallychallengedVille, canada

So I go and buy a new switch (thanks ariot) and in the mean time I put the old one back on but now the scooter WON'T start with the right brake lever but starts with the left! WTF? LOL Maybe I got the wires crossed?
