Has anyone else taken their Fashion on a long trip? I've taken mine on 2 longer trips (weekend long trips) and both times had welds and brackets crack on the exhaust. Then, this last time it died on the way home, had to come home on the back of a truck. We're thinking it's the transmission. I'm so depressed!! I really loved my ride!!
Am I just expecting too much out this scooter? I'm thinking I'll have to get a regular bike for the riding I like to do.

u have to do a good PDI im sure the exhaust bolts vibrated loose and caused all this. doubt its the transmission probably a loose wire got to go thru these scooters with a fine tooth comb especially wiring and the exhaust bolts and axle bolts if u do a good PDI and regular PM it will run great!

Kathineid's husband took one from Long Island, New York to Daytona, Florida and had no problems. Being a dealer I'm sure he went over it with a fine tooth comb but it proves it can be done. He still has it as far as I know.

8-)I dont know if you would call this a long trip or not,but i went on two 250mile trips. The first 250mile trip my oil pan bolt came loose.Making the scooter lose all the oil.(did'nt take long to fix)The second trip my thermostat was'nt working right, had to add coolant a number of times.(put new helex thromostat in,no other problem) I have to admit the fashion gave me a conforable ride,on both outings...

Thanks lairnbear.....you're right, it's very comfortable. Can I ask what year Fashion you have? I've heard now that there were some problems with the 2007 which is what I have.
The two long trips I've taken were a bit longer. Last year we did an Eau Claire to Lake Superior and back in one day. This time it was from southern MN to the Mississippi headwaters....went up one day, rode around the second day, came home the 3rd day.
I don't know if I should get rid of my Fashion or re-learn to shift and get a "regular" motorcycle or trade it in for a newer Fashion. I'm so torn. I really liked mine but if it can't handle the riding I'd like to do, then it isn't worth it to me.

Loctite and patience. You just have to learn your scooters ins and outs and pretty soon you'll be able to ride anywhere. Diving off the deep end isn't so good either. Do short trips like a hundred miles and see what's up so you'll know what to prep for longer rides.

Thanks kz......I had over 3,000 miles on my scooter before I took it on the long trip. Had taken it on several 100 miles trips with no problem. My husband (experienced mechanic) had always worked on my bike and checked it over for me. However, he died in April 2009....before these 2 long trips. I'm "out in the boonies" and have a good motorcycle mechanic but there are no scooter shops around here.

Then you have to start becoming one with your scooter. You should know when to tighten the exhaust bolts and when to service the rollers and belt in the drivetrain. I keep reading about people breaking their pipes here but I tighten mine every oil change. Guess what, no problems so far. Your motor shakes so you have to get in the habit of doing a little PM (preventive maintenance) once in awhile. I used to have a two stroke bike that I cleaned the exhaust baffles every year before my one big trip. You also need to start a journal (notebook) of dates and mileages of when the scooter was serviced. It helps you keep track of things. You'd be surprised how reliable the scoot becomes after that.

I have an 07 and had to have the muffler welded last year, its been okay since then, the longest trip I've taken has only been about 150 miles but I ride it to work and back everyday until last week when it started smoking. The outer oil tube cracked right near where its mounted to the engine. Still waiting for the replacent tube and I'm having scooter withdrawal symtoms, ened up riding my 50cc to work! I have just under 10,000 miles and this is the first problem I have had so I can't complain, I have the original drive belt and hoses on it yet. I bought it from a dealer and it was prepped by them.
