So I ordered my Kienhen 24mm carb today to replace my non-adjustable stock carb. My bike has one of those crappy EGR systems. I'd like to pull it and trash it since it robs vacuum at above 50% throttle. Removal is straight forward enough. But I need an EGR block off plate kit.
Anyone know where to get one?

I ordered a Kienhen 30mm carb from eBay for $35 shipped, should be here soon. I've see the non-EGR cover, but not the block off plate. Interesting about the EGR info. So I take it that it's better to remove it? I assume the EGR was put in place due to CA emissions or EPA regs? edit: I found the non-EGR cam cover here for $19.95: www.scrappydogscooters.com/125_150_4-STROKE_PARTS.html

I made one for my new scoot, easy enough to do. In fact, I used a piece of metal cut from the shipping crate the scoot arrived in. Cut it with hacksaw, drilled two holes, rounded the edges off a bit on the grinder, and bolted it on......scoot safely....Bob

Fabrication seems to be the way to go. The non -erg valve cover will not fit an EGR head.

The egr doesn't do anything beneficial to your engine, it robs vacuum at 50% or above throttle, which will cause fuel starvation unless you get a better petcock.
I have serious doubts that this EGR even works. It seems to only be required by law in CA, but they require egrs on chainsaws...

The Wikipedia article on EGR seems to indicate that it could reduce throttling losses, reduced heat rejection, reduced chemical dissociation, but also decrease the efficiency of gasoline engines via at least one more mechanism, reduced specific heat ratio. (A lean intake charge has a higher specific heat ratio than an EGR mixture. A reduction of specific heat ratio reduces the amount of energy that can be extracted by the piston.)

Yes those are the benefit of actual EGR systems on cars. But a gy6 was retrofited to take what appears to be a rather generic EGR. I highly doubt it is specifically designed for a gy6. I am rather certain the use of vacuum will always produce a significant amount of vacuum starvation. Vacuum is rather low and at a premium in these engines. I see no wisdom to devoting 30% of total vacuum produced to a rather ineffective system.

Interesting. So simply removing the EGR tube (chromed) and blocking the openings (via fabricating a metal or metal/rubber plate) is beneficial? Are there any drawbacks?
