I believe that those bikes use a pulse pump on them. The pulse pump uses pulses from the engine vacuum on the intake manifold to operate. so anything that weakens or affects the pulses is the first thing to check.
One needs to first check the intake and exhaust valve gaps as it is common for the valve gap to close up. That will cause the pulses to be weaker leading to fuel problems.
One also needs to check the vacuum lines, as a cracked or loose vacuum line means weaker pulses to the pump. The gas and fuel lines are usually pretty flimsy cheap things, so replacing them is a plus in any case.
Then the intake manifold needs to be checked to ensure it is not cracked and leaking as well. Look under the carb clamp too.
Then there is the fuel filter to check out.
If everything else is checking out and or fixed, and it still does it, then you need a new pulse pump. Some of us opted for electric fuel pumps, others opted for one of the Mikuni pulse pumps.

Welcome to the site. I visit here often but don't post much. I have a 2009 Qlink Legacy and have really enjoyed my first year of ownership. I have over 3,500 miles so far. This is my first ever bike or scooter and it is super easy to ride.
I have read on the Yahoo group board about this same problem. On their site, there is a link to photos and and description of fixing the problem. Let your dealer know about it. The instructions are very good and the photos help a lot!
It seems that some bikes have a vacuum issue that is solved by drilling a small vent hole in the gas cap. Again, it has been discussed on that site and I think it will help solve your problem. I have not expreinced the problem myself.
Everything Earlwb mentioned is spot on and I would highly suggest your dealer check them out first. Great bikes and hope you continue to have fun!! I love my Legacy. Godspeed, JON

I love my Legacy. Godspeed, JON Please DO NOT drill holes in gas caps. Take the bike to the dealer and let the dealer figure it out. Chances are, a line is pinched somewhere (either fuel or vacuum) or there is an issue with petcock. There is also a valve on the emissions system that can lock up and prevent proper venting of the fuel tank. V5 does not have a fuel pump, it's a gravity feed system. If dealer can't resolve the problem, please have them call us and talk to our techs.

Be careful with the brakes. I think the brake handles are adjustable on that model? There is a guy at work who rides a V and the brakes were so sensitive that on the Expressway the dropped the bike while braking. I think he needed to change the adjustment on the knob.

Sorry to hear about you on going problem with your bike, Pat. I hope the tech can figure it out soon. This problem does sound a lot like the vacuum issue I mentioned earlier. I have not exprienced it myself.
Perhaps Cfmoto will see the post and be able to offer some help.
You will be back riding very soon I am sure.
Godspeed, JON

Lets hope you are good to go, Pat. The group is the Yahoo Groups for CFMOTO. The procedure is outlined in the Files section under Mods for Legacy gas cap venting. autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/cfmoto/files/Hope this link works only IF you , and your techs agree, that you need it. It would be kinda like taking an asprin for pain.. it may cure the symptom but not the problem. Godspeed, JON
