i was wondering if you guys out there have hear of the air scoop mod? i wanted to do the air scoop mod and give my scoot better ventalation while its on the go... BUT i forgot where i saw the directions... i cant remember if it was on this forums or the other ones i found through Google Search.
if you guys dont know how it goes i can give you the basic idea of how to mod:
1 - plastic 4" 45 degree sewer elbo 3 - "L" clamps 6 - small screws Sharpie Marker A hack saw Sandpaper Spray Paint Drill w/ 1/16" drill bit (drilling pilot holes in the elbo)
basically you are going to mount a air scoop on the right side of your scoot where you see that plastic vent right above the plastic oil dip stick.
* what you do it cut off the think end of the big 4" elbo * sand the entire elbo til nice and smooth * using the "L" clamps and screws, you screw in the clamps where the you see the 3 plastic holes on the vent area. * position and mount the big elbo to the position you like, mark it with marker * with the drill, make 3 pilot holes where you marked it * then use the last 3 screws to make the air scoop firm and permanent. * go out and ENJOI your creation! ;D
Optional: I just thought of this but if you know how one might be able to add a screen mesh to prevent large objects and small rocks from comming in

why don't you add a small fan from radioshack and make it into a supercharger?
Seriously though, I don't see where this scoop will really help the scoot much. THe design of the intake is efficient I believe, unless your wanting better performance, which a scoop isn't going to help that much.. there are many other ways to increase performance.... I dunno... seems a waste to me...
I would have to see it I guess.... I dunno... I've never been a big fan of scoops, they seem to be such a waste of effort. What are the benefits of this mod? Anything measurable?

There's a link in my signature on how to search properly and find results. Here's a link to the mod you're looking for. -Rich

btw, I'm not trying to be a downer here, I just really don't see what the beni's are... Are scooters running inherently rich and starving for air? are they being choked to death by their design? I know that hood scoops on 90% of the cars that have them are for appearance only, and serve no real benefit, and in some cases actually harm performance.. If you add this to increase air flow and direct it right into your carb, you will need to change your jets and can in fact then increase air flow, it is known as an air ram.. Add the fan as I joked above and you have a supercharger.. again, you would need to change the jets.. more air requires more fuel.. b elieve me, more air without more gas equals bad performance.. and vice-versa....
If it is just to be a cosmetic mod, then it's a pretty neat idea, but again I would have to see it to know if it looks good, or just like a cheesy piece of pvc glued to a scoot...

Thanks Rich.. That looks cool.... it came out nice... I was racking my brain trying to figure out why someone would want to put a scoop on a scooter... duh... it makes sense now...

You just have to learn the search feature and understand it's not an algorithm. All it is, is a keyword search of a flat file database, so you have to be creative!
I searched for SEWER, and yours was the first result and the post I sent you to was the second. Had that not worked, I would have searched for 4", or 4" elbow... ;D

This "scoop" may well decrease the airflow. Takes extra power to force air thru a duct and you've also reduced the intake area of the fan since it can normally draw air around it's circumference.

so are you saying that it would run better without one?

Bill H. Don't really see how it could decrease airflow since it's approximately the same internal size as the original air intake and very short. I like the idea because it gets the air intake out past the hot exhaust pipe...plus it looks cool
