Hi, Could somebody tell me the link for stripping down the carburetor on a scooter, thank you, bob.

PS, the scooter is coughing and spluttering, gets worse when under pressure, the carb is the only thing i can think off, regards, bob.

Bob make sure you do all the basics first! 1) Do you have good consistent spark? 2) Are you getting good fuel flow? 3) Is the air getting to the motor? Try putting your hand slightly over the carb when you crank it up...does anything change? Lastly search on the forum under "carb rebuild". Good luck

Hi, All of the above seems ok, do you think a petrol addative cleaner will help in any way, i filled the tank with 10 litres of petrol 2 days before the trouble started, thanks, bob.

Sterling,
Could be you got bad gas. Or maybe you overfilled it and gas is in the Vent Hose from the Tank and is in the emission canister IF YOU have one. If you do take the hose off by the canister and see if fuel comes out.

HI, Should have said £10 worth of petrol it's a 12 ltr tank so it wont be overfill, i have emptied the tank and filled with fresh petrol, when cold it runs great untill it heats up then starts coughing and spluttering and back fires through the exhaust, anybody got more idea's, i'm at a loss of what to try next, thanks, bob.

On a cold start the auto enricher is open giving you more gas to the carb. After a few minutes it closes, and the scooter should idle slower than during warm up.
Sounds like after the enricher closes you aren't getting enough gas. Could be blocked fuel filter or dirty carb.

Any chance that the valves might need adjusting. It seems that I read if the valves go out of adjustment when the engine warms up the valve stems expand and cause the valves not to seat properly .

Sterling,
Well any backfireing is caused by a LEAN condition. Now the first suspect is always the Header Pipe connections to the Head, could have blown out the gasket and or lost a nut on the one of the studs.

Other Lean condition Leaks around your carb, Intake Manifold has a crack, Clamp holding the Carb to the Intake is not tight as well as the Air Filter connection on the Air Intake side etc.. Maybe even the Air Filter hose came off or cracked etc..
To find leaks around your carb get a Spray Water bottle and spray individual parts, intake vacumm hoses etcc..

I assume it is FARTING when you let off the throttle slowing down.

Hi, Could you tell me what screw i need to adjust if i'm running to lean, header and tubes seem ok, another thing is, the automatic choke doesn't seem to work, there's no change in the tick-over speed from cold to hot, thank guys, sterling.

Sterling: I'm with Lefty I think he is spot on. Locating the screw depends on what type of scooter and carb you have. If it is an Ice bear cycle then more than likely the air fuel enrichment screw is probably located at the bottom of the carb. Be careful you don't change it by more that about a half a turn at a time then test drive. It may also have a cap (probably metal) that you will have to remove to access the adjustment screw. A picture of your carb or the manufaturing number off of it would help others on this forum to diagnose for you. There are numerous forum talks about carb fixes on this forum ... just do a search. r, Lee

You probably have a 30mm carb on that 300, so more than likelty the Fuel Ratio screw is UNDERNEATH by the front of the carb. Here is a 24mm carb that is on mine notice it is on the side well yours probably is under:

Hi lee, the auto choke doesn't seem to work, it ticks over nice from cold to hot but doesn't change tick-over speed, the best i can describe the problem is it drives like a car with the choke full on when at running temp, the carb is the same as the one above thanks lee.

Ok missed that it was a 300 Magnum so yes the fuel enrichment screw is on the bootom of the carb and points down. It will be covered by an aluminum cap

Just pull the Choke off after it is nice and hot about 5 minutes after you start it just touch it, IT SHOULD BE hot. If it NOT HOT make sure it is PLugged in and the wires are not loose at the where it Plugs in.
When you pull it off if it looks like this IT IS NOT EXTENDING to shut off the extra fuel After it gets hot and you need a new one if IT IS HOT to the touch.

Well pictures are worth a thousand words as they say and people can actually see the parts and what not. sh!t many do not even know where the Carb is let alone how to adjust them or properly clean the jets and passages. And they always never think of the passages especially the passages for the PILOT JET.
Which is critical for starting and idleing and all the through the Thorttle range.
I have a lot pictures of a lot of things, that one of the Choke is a mod I made notice the quick connect on it. The other end is still on the scoot plugged in with the other half of the quick connect. I did that so when taking off the carb I did not have to either unplug it or take the Choke off the carb.
But as you can see I do not use It anymore, I put on a manual choke on mine.

Well the carburatior number is PD24J-K5, ran out of things to try. have also tried running with choke disconected and air fiter off, no change,

Thanks for trying guys, have now put it into garage for compleat strip down and rebuild, new fuel lines, carburaitor, anything else i see, just so fed up with it just now, will let you know the outcome, prob next year sometime lol, thanks again, sterling.

Mine never changes my idle....sterling, don't know were you live but here in Florida mine get warm to touch in seconds. I have only once had it raise idle, went down to 61 that nite...
