Is there an advantage other than about 1 horsepower to getting the gy6b versus gy6?
Is the b harder to find parts for if you needed to work on it? Is the b any "tougher"?
Is the gas mileage about the same?

gy6B is used primarily in gy6 powered ATV's. It uses a wider rectangular cylinder bolt pattern. this allows 175cc GY6 based engines to be produced. it also has a revised oiling system allowing a oil cooler to be installed on the pressure side of the oil pump. Other than the cylinder and head, because of cylinder stud spacing, all other gy6 parts will fit it

The cam is also different, it will not accept the aftermarket cams, according to sussex a gy6b owner.

I have a gy6B Head on ebay, brand new with valves in it. Item 140612504537.
I have read the cam is a HP cam from the factory, so you'd have to be sure an upgraded one would actually benefit power.
I have read what Jackthefuzz posted and have seen the same info.
I put a aftermarket muffler on and did gain about 3-5 mph top and it simply sounds happier. Next up is airflow and re-jetting. When I ride it with the better muffler, it really sounds and feels like it is begging for fuel and air.
I have a 16" Phoenix/Cadenza/Znen zn150t-18

The B engines are different in the rear gear train.. you can see the differences here...they are for 16" wheels The cases are wider and there are different internals Look at the rear axle and CVT Attachments:
