« Thread Started on Aug 3, 2012, 6:49pm »

Hey all. I have been looking at my next bike/scooter to get, and i saw this
http://www.countyimports.com/inc/sdetail....98#.UByagbRiqoI

Is this engine just like a 150cc scooter engine i would find in a regular chinese scooteR? so i could drag and drop one in this body if i had to? or is it slightly different?
has anyone ever bought one of these before? is it higher quaility then other 150cc scooters?

thanks in advance again!
Andy

I have seen people post who drive these a few times...but there are not as many of them out there as there are the scooters. I have limited knowledge because I have never seen one in person...but from what I have read and heard, it uses the same GY6 engine as any other scooter would. Some of them have 16 inch wheels, some of them still have the 13 or 12 inch wheels.
As far as I know, the frame is similar/the same, it just has a different body paneling.

I can tell you that most parts should work for it, and that the engine mounts should be the same. I am not sure that the exhaust mounts would line up with the scooter counterparts...but I think they might.

Honestly no. Your paying about 600 more than a normal scooter would cost for different body panels. You could get an Echarm or a other 16 inch wheel efi scooter for about that price. Heck...where I live you can get a 250cc for that much.
This bike is going to have a top speed of around 55 just like a stock scooter....it will just look faster.

There are a lot of 250 china bikes in this style, they sell them for about 1700 where I live locally. They are manual, and pretty comparable to a ninja 250. May be more what you are looking for.

If it was my 1700+ dollars, and thats the style I wanted I would just go on craigslist and buy a used ninja 250 for about the same price.

Best to find a local person selling them.
They are normally more pleasant to deal with than most of the online dropship places.

Normally if you look on craigslist the local chinese scooter dealers have plenty of ads on there.

Are all GY6 engines made in china? Since its a Honda clone can you replace Chinese parts with Honda ones?

The only companies shipping out GY6 clone engines are the Chinese companies and the Taiwanese companies. They are probably both made in China...but the Taiwan ones are a little different and much better built with much better quality control.

Some of the parts may be interchangeable, but not necessarily. I think the original Honda GY6 was only a 50cc engine. Additionally Honda stopped making them to my knowledge quite a while ago...so good luck finding a reliable source of Honda parts. Best replacements you're likely to find are NCY.

Its Chinese.

If it was Taiwan it would be branded Kymco, Genuine, or Sym. Those are the major Taiwan brands.

Kymco used to make this bike:

http://www.kymcousa.com/showroom/mcs/quannon150/index.html

It isn't a scooter though, I've seen one of those and it shifts manually. I'm not sure what kind of engine it uses, haven't seen one of them that closely.

I think they have stopped production, but I know the Kymco dealer in my area still had a couple laying around...so you may be able to find one at a dealership that never sold them all.
