Was having recent trouble with sensation of 'surging' while driving and thought CVT. Cursory inspection of CVT appears it is working fine, and I was unable to recreate any surging on center stand. Noted both pulleys appeared to be operating smoothly with nice belt travel up and down respective variator and clutch pulleys. Further inspection...I actually see sparking coming from the plug area and see that the boot is shattered and there is enough arcing to fire the plug while on the stand, but the vibration of driving must be rattling the boot enough to make misses??
I am looking for a new boot and see that online parts stores have MANY different NGK / Hoca ones. Can't tell if I need a specific one? Second question, should I just replace the coil (no indication it is malfunctioning, but it looks easier to install than splicing in a new boot!) Scoot is 150cc gy6 w/ NGK C7HSA plug. Thanks for helping me get back on the road!

get an NGK boot. The old boot will simply un-screw from the end of the wire and the new one screws on in it's place. Less than a 5 minute job.

Thanks for the great response, Fox, above-and-beyond for sure. I've never swapped one out so I didn't know they just screw in.
