 Belts for a 150cc
« Thread Started on Jun 19, 2012, 11:27pm »

I got a Sunny DF150STD and absolutely love it. My wife and I have been riding double on it almost every night. I got it with about 300k on it and have put about 500k on it since I got it. The speed and take off have decreased and I was thinking of changing the belt. What would the benefits of a Kevlar belt be over a factory belt?
What is the best belt for the 150cc?
The tires are stock from Sunny. I feel very uneasy about riding double on these. What brand would be the best choice and will that give it a smoother ride. I had the tires balanced that helped the ride a lot.

Sounds more like you need to adjust your valves.

I don't think your belt is the problem right now. You need to look at your carb and the valve adjustment. For info on how to do a valve adjustment, go to youtube and watch it being done first. It';s pretty easy and generally fixes a lot of issues.

Be sure to do the valve adjustment on a cold engine.
The valve adjustment is going to vary on each scooter, but the common adjustments are .003 on the intake (top) and.004 on the exhaust (bottom). Now, if that gives you a lot of ticking noise, you may need to use different measurements. Bump up to .004 & .005. The idea is to not have the ticking sound...also, put the valve cover back on before starting it, or you'll have oil everywhere.

The next thing to do is clean your carb. Then do an air/fuel adjustment. Turn that a/f screw in all the way and then back it out 2 1/2 turns. There is always fine tuning to be done, but this will definitely get you headed in the right direction. Do these things first and check your scooter after each one to see if you've made any progress. Also, check for any cracks or air leaks in the air filter box and around the hoses and seal them. If you're getting too much air into the carb, then it will affect performance.

Do those things and report back to let us know what did or didn't help and then go on from there. There are other things to look at, but these would be first an less in depth and a lot of the time resolve issues like what your having. Good luck!

Most people don't realize it, but they have a "Bitch Switch"...likely it is stuck in the "ON" position.
Often a hard smack to either side of the head will fix this!
