i've seen mention of a motor mount mod that will minimize or remove the lateral movement of the engine....i've seen some old posts by Gy6rocket about the mod, but the pics are no longer available
anyone have any info on this mod?....preferably with pics ;D
i like the idea getting more torque directly to the ground and giving more snap to the acceleration....but i don't want to do any serious fabb'ing....hopefully there's a simple way to bolt the rubber stoppers down to avoid the lateral flex?

Check out my Delrin bushing thread here.Being a single piston engine, stiffening up the engine mounts will create a little more vibration so expect that. You could remove the stoppers and drill and tap holes through the old stopper holes and into your frame. Use 2 bolts through the cradle and into the frame to hold the cradle still. Or do like Kliff did and weld a rod to it.

thanks anomoly40 +1 i'm willing to at least see how bad the vibrations are and i won't be welding anything, but i can probably handle drilling and bolting ;D i'd still appreciate pictures from anyone that has done the mod

Crap - I just looked closer to realize that's in the background, and not UNDER the seat. I was starting to think he was re-enforcing the motor mount to handle the extra - erm....EVERYTHING.

Before I fabricated a custom aluminum solid mount I bolted the OEM one in place as anomoly40 stated. Worked out quite well, for OEM.

Looked back through the archives, found this one and did a bit of photoshopping so it can been seen where the bolts go , and a close up of them.

the other day i locked down my motor mount...not sure if I will keep it as is though...the scoot does seem a little more "grounded", and the additional vibration doesn't bother me personally, but I'm not so sure the scoot likes it...the front instrument panel vibrates quite a bit, and i'm concerned bolts and screws may start dropping off i'll keep it locked for a little while longer, but if i don't come to the conclusion it's a worthwhile mod, i'll put the rubber stopper back in UPDATE: i decided to reverse the mod and put the rubber bumper back in....the small benefit (if any) of the mod, was not worth the possible problems that could have been caused by the extra vibrations

Cool, that's what's nice about the bolt method: it's removable!

Am I wrong in thinking that those rigid mounts mean the engine, and therefore the swingarm no longer pivots? As in, turn the scooter into a hardtail?

The scoot still has the rear shocks to take some of the shock

I must be missing something. What does the brace in the pic anomoly40 posted actually brace, and what does the bolt in scotter3oy's pic do? Both look like they keep the engine from pivoting. If that's the case, the shocks don't have anything to do.

If that's the case, the shocks don't have anything to do. The engine is free to pivot about the bolt that goes through the aluminum ears on the crankcase casting. You can see one of them in the above picture. Approximately centered left-right near the bottom of the picture. The cradle that was bolted solid adds some more free motion, but not much, to isolate some of the vibration from the frame and the rest of the scoot.
