Ok hows everyone, just a quick question what is really the difference in 15w40 and 10w40 oil? I have been using Castrol GTX 10w40 oil in my 2008 aeolus 260cc scooter and have had no problems. is there an extra additive in 15w40 or is it thicker thinner or what? Attachments:

"W" means "Winter." The smaller number identifies how thick the oil is when it's cold; the larger number is how thick it is when it's hot. The smaller the number, the thinner the oil.
So 10W-40 and 15W-40 are the same thickness when they're at operating temperature, but 15W-40 is a little bit thicker when it's cold.
Stick with the manufacturer's recommendation when you can. If 10W40 is recommended, use it, even if you live where it doesn't get cold in the winter. There's not a lot of oil in the engine; it's good to get it to the moving parts as quickly as possible. But using 15W-40 isn't going to ruin anything instantly.
If 15W40 is recommended, you can use 10W-40 in its place, especially in the winter, keeping in mind that oil that has a smaller difference between cold and hot weights tends to maintain lubricity for a longer period of time. As long as you're regular with oil changes, you should be fine.
