I just received the new Chinese, Taiwanese & Korean Scooter Service and repair manual wriiten by Haynes. Haynes Number 4768.
Overall I was very impressed. It has alot of pictures and information on how to check and repair different areas of these scooters. Covers both 2 and 4 strokes.
Preride Section : shows what checks should be done before each ride, like checking the oil, fluids tires and safety checks.
One thing I found I was impressed with was a ledger called the Degrees of Difficulty in the beginning of each chapter, letting the reader know just how much knowledge is required for performing a task. Each task within the chapters has a rating.
Chapter one deals with maintenance. Has alot of pictures showing where things are located and how to gain access to different components. Also how to adjust items.
Chapter 2 deals with both 2 and 4 stokes motors. I found they did a very nice job of discribing procedures of minor and major work. Agian lots of pictures.
Chapter 3 deals with fuel systems. Haynes does a nice job of break downs of carbs and fuel delivery.
Chapter 4. Ignition . Very short chapter. I feel the could have expounded more in this area. There is basic usefull information, but not as deep as I would have expected from Haynes
Chapter 5 deals with the Transmission drive components and gearbox. Good section lots of information.
Chapter 6 Frame and suspension. Consise and offers good information. Great area on triple tree and front fork seal replacement.
Chapter 7 Brakes, wheels and tyres ( LOL I like how they spell tire) . Very nice section. Tells the DIY just about all they need to know about brake work.
Chapter 8 Body work. Good information on panel removal, different types of fasteners used and a bit on repair.
Chapter 9 Electrical systems. My opinion they could have done alot more with this section. The information is good for what is there. However, no diagrams of complete systems in this section like I have come to expect from Haynes.
Data Section Bike specific. Lots of good information and specs. Idle speeds, Oil Capacities, bore clearances, valve clearance belt info ect. Drawback not all makes are listed so you need to know who made your scooter not just the "Badge" name.
Tools and Workshop Tips. Great information and hints in this section.
MOT test checks, 4 page chapter that is definately worth reading for both the novice and experienced rider in my opinion.
Fault Finding Chapter. I found this to be a good area of knowing where to start and what to check. Seen lots of information here that is talked about in this forum.
A very good manual for the first one I have seen on Chinese Scooters and well worth the asking price in my opinion. Most part stores that carry Haynes manuals should be able to order you one or www.partsforscooters.com/New-Products if you want to order online.
