We here at FX Motorsports were saddened to hear of the fatal accident Ms. Anna Maria Ronquille had last Thursday. Anna had just purchased the scooter from us and was on her maiden voyage when she crossed the center line on the Lafitte highway at the top of the bridge and hit a southbound pick up truck head on.
Her family tells us she was caught by a gust of wind that sent her into the oncoming lane.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to her husband, Bryan, who was also injured and burned trying to save Anna.
From the short time we knew them, it was obvious that Anna and Bryan were incredibly nice folks...
Here is the official story: "Sheriff Newell reports, around 4:20 PM this afternoon our officers responded to a motor cycle accident on the Intercoastal bridge over the Barataria waterway in Lafitte.
First responders located the body of a female motorcyclist pinned under a Chevrolet pickup truck.
The victim, identified as Anna Ronquille, 49 of Crown Point, was pronounced dead on the scene.
Fatality officer Carl Quijano's investigation revealed the decedent was traveling north over the bridge along with her husband who was on a separate motorcycle. According to witnesses, she crossed the center line, ran head on into the path of the 2003 Chevy pickup, being driven southbound by a 19 year old man from Lafitte.
The motorcycle burst into flames on impact and her husband sustained burns attempting unsuccessfully to pull her from the wreckage.
The driver of the pickup was uninjured."
Please be careful out there on windy days...
-Rich

We too send our condolences to her husband and family. Wind is always trickier on bridges but general motorists aren't warned with signs because as a rule four wheelers aren't really affected. They do put up signs stating beware of ice on bridges because that does affect cars. I don't like bridges or tall on/off ramps and I have to go on them in my daily commute. Experience, caution and sometimes prayers are needed for them. This just shows you that example unfortunately.
We have a lot of metal grate bridges around here and even with the 16" wheels on my scooter, you wouldn't catch me on them.-nope.
Sincerely Jeff, Lynn, Veronica, Ryan.

This is truly a tragedy. However, I believe some good could come from it. If we print up the story as written by Big Guy, and encourage our local MC/Scooter Dealers to give it to New MC/Scooter Owners, it's just possible that another similar tragedy could be averted in the future. Mrs. Ronquille's family is in our prayers, especially her husband. In this case, it's a dual tragedy in that he was witness to this. Nothing can be more heart breaking than seeing this happen before your eyes. My heart truly goes out to the family and friends. JD

...How awful. Seems to me that there are a lot of mistakes first time scooterists make that could be avoided with just a bit of practice, and training.
It's not just windy days. I've noticed that the wind almost always picks up when you're crossing a bridge.

My heart goes out to Mrs Ronquille's husband, family and friends. I couldn't imagine being with my wife when something like that happened.
When I was a child, my mother had a little step thru Honda 100cc. After a while, she sold it and upgraded. The young man she sold it to crossed the center line and suffered the same fate. I've thought of how it affected my mother often.
We must be constantly vigilante in our riding, and remind our friends and loved ones as well.
Rest In Peace Mrs Ronquille...

Both families need prayers. The kid in the truck must be traumitized as well. This was not a good outcome for anyone involved. Paul
