 Aftermarket exhaust qustions
« Thread Started on Jul 20, 2012, 9:02am »

After I install my bbk im planning on installing a new exhaust. Im not looking for better performance, I just want a deeper sound. I found this exhaust on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Scooter-Performa....fba7fc2&vxp=mtr and figured itll do the job. I got a few questions tho. First, the seller on ebay says that this exhaust has a mounting disclaimer. What could be the problem with the mounting? Whats the usual problem and what would I have to do? Second, is the thing that srews into the tip of the exhaust a silencer and if so how quite will it make it and can I ride without it. And last but not least, I was told I can take this (thing on th exhaust) [image] off and itll give me a lil more power. I dont really care about the extra power Im just more concerned about the new exhaust not having this. What is it called, what does it do and how would I go about removing it? Thanks everyone. I dont know what I would do without you guys!

i have that same exhaust it sounds and looks great not sure if i gained performance since i dont have a bbk but sounds great had to bend it some to install it and made a homemade bracket for the clamp im happy with it i bought it in black took the screw in tip out it sounds better does that silver piece on your exhaust go underneath to exhaust studs?

Got the same one in black too, its now a dark orange. Sound is awsome with a 50mm BBK. I had it on with the stock engine and it sounded really nice and deep.

The restrictor at the end tip will only make it a little bit louder if removed.

Thanks for the fast responses guys. Katastroff, what is the restrictor connected to? Millsc, If your asking how its attached to the exhaust, the screws screw in from the part of the exhaust its attached to upwards. But if your asking where it runs to i dont know.

Its just an emissions thing like PAIR or EGR. You can remove it and it wont cause any damage, but if you remove it then you need to remove the rest of it off of your engine and seal up any open nipples. You may need an aftermarket air filter if you remove the system though.

well once everything is off you should only have a couple and all you'd need is a couple rubber end caps from any auto store, they'll be in the same isle as fuel/vacuum lines.

Thanks Inkyben! Sorry katastroff I thought you meant the thing connected to my stock exhaust. When you call the tip a restrictor do you mean it restricts power, air flow, or sound? I dont care about an increase in performance, I just dont want a decrease. Also how quite is it with the restrictor on? The whole reason I want one with a removable tip is so I can quietly (No louder than stock) ride around at night, but still roar down the street during the day. lol

The restrictor acts on air flow and sound. Sound is a little louder and deeper without it.

I havent noticed any performance changes since i removed it from my BBK set up, only a deeper and a little bit louder sound. As for stock set up, the restritor never got removed so i would not know.

I have the same exhaust. Do not use the silencer mine got stuck in it and had to drill it out. This exhaust sounds great. I love it for the price. But it is not the best quality exhaust out there. Mine changed orange in about 2 mounths also.

When it starts dis-coloring you can give it a good skuff with sand paper and re-paint with some VHT paint. The painted exhausts have pretty low quality paint and it burns off hence the orange color. I use VHT on my exhaust mainly due to the heat dis-coloring my head pipe.
You dont have to prime the exhaust first or anything, just give it a few coats of the VHT.
