Yes. Just make sure the tank is removed from the scooter, washed and dried! Don't want any accidental explosions!

Seems I recall warning against doing that but not sure. It was long ago. but I suspect a little sandpaper to get it clean and some JS weld will make a fuel proff patch cheap and easy and safe.

Go to the auto parts store and buy some gasket material and cut out a new gasket it make take two but it will seal and fix the leak.

If you do decide to weld it make sure it is clean, I went to weld a gas tank from a 70 Challenger one time I rinsed it several times then waved a torch by the neck to check if it was safe...well it was not, the tank shot across the back yard hit the fence and went about ten feet in the air. When it came down the tank was round and destroyed. I drove around with a modified 5gal boat tank in my trunk for the rest of the summer...fun,fun,fun.

You can almost never get all the fumes out of a used tank. The safest method to proceed is the gasket idea.

Your are right D-cat, I have personnaly seen a tank explode while trying to weld on a new inlet pipe on one, It put a nice big hole in the tank.

There is an old trick, of filling the tank with water then welding it, requires more heat because the water will draw the heat away, But the water keeps the fume's from getting any oxygen to ignite it is a tricky process to get right without totally melting the tank, but I've done this. It can be done

My teacher let the dummest kid in school weld a lawn mower gas tank one time but we cleaned it inside and out and put sand and water in it then welded it up....so it has to be safe hahaha

I used a big flat washer and jb welded over the hole and it is neat and seems to work so far. I did take for a ride and it says I'm going few mph less. Any ideas how that could be? Also need more bolts they seem to strip easy
