Well, I went and ordered a 47mm kit from Scootertronics only to receive it today and find what I think might be a cheaper kit that was sent in its place. The box came without any markings on it, nothing on the bill of sale, and before I take off the plastic from the cylinder and piston, I am wondering if there will be anything that should distinguish this as an NCY or Naraku kit? They listed it as either kit that would ship depending on what was in stock. I just jumped on and did some reading about Scootertronics (wish I had seen that thread sooner) and I am really wondering what I got sent. Thanks.

^^ Thanks. That confirms my suspicions. Unfortunately I didn't get to see all the posts about this guy till AFTER I got the package and realized something wasn't right.
Unfortunately, they just don't answer the phone and on the recording it states do not leave a message and everything will be handled via email. :/ Here we go!

I paid with my Visa :/
I just emailed the guy back and I am going to try to give him the chance to make good on this before I start going down that path. But should there be any issue I will see what I can do about getting my refund through the bank.

I sent an email to him about the issue and the reply I get back is:
"Sir they are all completely the same there is no difference in brands. They are all the same every last one of them made in same factory."

Wow.
Naraku is made in Taiwan, what you have is a Chinese kit. Send it back and get what your paid for. We are a NARAKU dealer and they are very different in quality.

Yeah, that's what I have concluded. In my reply to him, I told him that I knew that NCY and NARAKU are both Taiwan products, but he sent me neither. The box came plain white and there was a small label that was ripped off the box I knew right away something was wrong and when I did some digging on the company I found the "Buyer beware" thread on these boards. Just wish I had found it BEFORE I purchased from him. Thanks for your input!

Next time maybe check with BBB and here for who to go to . NCY and Hoca are great Taiwanese brands . At least you didnt pay for a premium Italian and get China stuff . I heard lots of bad about Scootertronics and they are higher on prices than most .

There is a huge difference in brands. my last container i recivied from China we had hundreds of cylinder kits for the GY6 150cc scooters and then we have some that are made in taiwan and there is a huge difference in quality. The 59mm cylinder kits i bought from China are complete crap that i will not sell them unless the customer really wants it and i explain to them the problems. I installed one in my scooter a long time ago and it broke the second i turned the scooter on and it has happened alot to my customers. Most companies in Taiwan put there products in a nice design box or packaging. and usually always has there taiwan website on them. Like Hoca, NCY, Taida, K/S.

So I have made 3 attempts by email and as mentioned in other threads - there are no answers on the phone. I have called my bank and they informed me that I should mail the part back and then I can file for a refund through them.
I have been debating on sticking it in a box and mailing it back to the address from which it came from - which just happens to be Scooter Thunder. So it looks as though Tommy "Thunder" Chaffee might still be drop shipping the items for Mike Milstead(?) No answer at Scooter Thunder either, looks as though they are on Winter Hours.
Part of me wants to just eat it and use the part - but the other part is going on principal here and I know if the piston craps out I will hate myself.
I have looked on the site again and it looks as though he has changed the listing to no longer say "Shipped as Naraku or NCY based on availability" to just some generic copy which doesn't elude to where the part comes from. He also upped the price, lol. Classy. Ditto for Scooter Thunder.
My concern with shipping it back is that if Scooter Thunder is on Winter Hours and I am sending this with Delivery Confirmation - how does that work out if no one is there to receive it?

Here are the rules Scootertronics has about returns All returns must have a RMA number. Customers must notify Scootertronics within 3 days of receiving product by email info@scootertronics.com. Product must be received in 7 buisness from date of notice of intent to return. Customers must get a RMA number before shipping products back. A return address will be given at this time. Do not return to sender. There is a 20 percent restocking fee. Products must be in unused condition with all tags, manuals, packaging. This means in resell condition just like if you were buying it. Shipping is customers responsibility. Any credit or refunds will be handled after product is returned and inspected.

Found this on "Scooter Mike's" blog and I found it interesting.
"Naraku Scooters is fast becoming a favorite of mine. Naraku products do come from TW by way of a European company that also puts thought into their products. While carry a lot of basic stock parts that are the same for all distributors Naraku also offers high performance parts. This is easily done by using higher quality parts to assemble the final product."
"Higher quality parts" ... I thought they were all coming from the same place!?

Also, no one will get back to me to give me an RMA. I have Tweeted him, sent him a message on Google+, sent him an email at his personal email@scootertronics.com and PM'd him here. Giving it till tomorrow and I might just throw it in a box and send it and let the bank handle it. What a class act this guy is.

Ha - well I guess bombarding Mike from every angle seems to have worked thus far. I got an email back today:
I honestly thought I found a smoking deal on a Tiawan kit - as listed. Guess something ARE too good to be true. At least he updated the site and removed the brand names from the listing.

Even being a retailer I am on the customer's side on this issue.
I would suggest starting a chargeback on the credit card NOW. It can always be cancelled later. You are limited in time to make a claim. It varies depending on your card. With a call from the credit card company Scootertronics will be much more likely to give you a refund quickly.
It has been known to happen that a retailer will string along a customer with the promise of a refund until the filing window for a complaint or chargeback has passed. It's something to consider, and realize that the credit card company is on YOUR side. They really do have good consumer protection for purchases, and you don't have to have a platinum card.

Thanks Greg, that's sound advice. I have talked with a rep at the bank and they said that I have 60 days from the date of sale to dispute. They recommended sending it back first, then filing once I see it has been delivered. At that point, as you said, it will be a good way to expedite the refund.
FWIW - He had this item listed as "ships as NCY or Naraku depending on availability" the price was on sale for $99. While it seemed damn cheap, it's didn't seem completely unbelieveable. Yet way too much for a no-name China kit.

Boy scootertronics has a lot of nerve, I don't know if it's possible but I em wondering if you have grounds for a lawsuit ? Seems to me advertizing a product such as NCY, or Naruku, then giving you something else is a bait and switch tatic that I'm pretty sure is Illegal... It don't matter what price he charges for the product, it's his job to deliver exactly what he advertized at the price he advertized it at period. If not then it's his responsibility to contact the buyer and discuss the problem and resolve it to the customers liking as best as he can, even if he loses money on the deal.. That's an ethical business practice.. I agree with others here that what you got is not Taiwanese made, NCY, Narkru, have very nice labeling on their product boxes, Hoca don't put a lot in their box labeling other than the picture below, but i assure there's a huge difference in quality.. I would do as Greg says, get a charge back on your card.. And look into a lawsuit for bait and switch.... I'm sure you can prove what you purchased from him with your invoice at the time of purchase....

Delivery confirmation for today - he got his part back. Let's see how the rest of this turns out. I won't get into other conversations we have had via email, but I will tell you he is not a happy camper with me telling you all about this. Thanks everyone for your help with pics and backing up my suspicions.

Yeah, sleestak, I had an interesting time with him a while back as well, but I never even received the product!!!! Search "sccotertronics" and Im sure that you will see lots of fun stories. They are by far THE WORST of all the scooter parts dealers out there. They have no concept of customer service. But, Im sure you know that already...

Just because you told your buddies about how he tried to shaft you ? hummmmm does that about sum it up ? Word of mouth advertizing works both ways good and bad, when your good word travels slow, when your bad it travels fast.. It was said 20 years ago one unhappy customer would tell 20 people... Now days it's 20,000,000 so I don't have any sympathy for him.. Should not have tried that in the first place.. He asked for what he got..

^^ Most definitely.
So the item was signed for/delivered on the 19th - I was nice enough to give him 1 week to at least get back to me, but he failed to do so. Now Visa is involved and I hope to have this resolved and behind me soon so I can get down to tearing this scooter apart and building it back up.
