 Mild 50cc mods
« Thread Started on Apr 9, 2008, 7:26pm »

If I wanted a little more acceleration (don`t need any more top speed) could I install a larger, free-flow air cleaner and adjust the mixture richer without rejetting the carb?
I`m under warranty and don`t want to take apart the carb or bore out the exhaust yet. Also, I like the quiet exhaust note it has now.

Hello again.

I imagine you have read some os the posts on this page by now,
But just in case I posted this in the "70-80cc upgrade for X-Treme XM-50" thread;

<<<<<But first, read the two posts at the top of this page. They are very good.
The second, "50 m.p.h. success, what worked and what didn't", is like the Gettysburg Address on mild 50cc 4 stroke hop ups.

If hill climbing ability is more of a concern than top speed, perhaps a 70cc big bore kit while retaining the stock carb(rejetted) and muffler(opened up)might be a plan.>>>>>>

Those three treads should get you started.

I`ve read all those posts before- I`m not looking for 50 mph (or any more top speed) or to climb hills. I just want to know if I can open up the air intake and only have to readjust the mixture a little richer without rejetting the carb. Just a firts step while under warranty and while breaking in the engine. Just about every post that mentions more air intake also mentions rejetting the carb.

It depends on how open you plan on opening it up. If you go all the way it still realy dosent do all that much. Save yourself the trouble, leave it stock and just ride.

Yeah, that wouldn't do much. The carb mixture adustment is just at, and right off idle.
It might be lean now, so don't drill any holes unless to want to rejet.

Thanks for the good advice. I think I`ll leave it stock as far as airbox and exhaust go. I was wondering if I only changed the roller weights, and left everything else alone, would that give me a little more acceleration? If so, what weight size would be best?

I hear 4.5g quite a bit. That seems to be the magic number for a lot of folks.
