I can vouch for the 300 being a well built machine with lots of power. The biggest difference is the lance can be fitted with a trunk, the 300 cannot, without some serious modification.

Yes, the Linhai can be fitted w/trunk if you buy the trunk rack from Scootertronics. Woodstockman has agreed to do a post on his special mods to increase storage space.

As far as Lance vs Linhai goes, it is a matter of choice. I do believe that Lance is a good line and wants to stand behind their product. For the Linhai, you might still be able to get a left over '06 300. There are still '06 Classic 260s remaining. I have seen the Lance scoots and have been impressed. I feel the Linhai line - at least the 260/300 versions - are a steal for the $. They are well engineered scoots of very good quality. As Earl said, ultimately it is your choice.

henrydiecker,
You may not be on the right forum. If you have such dislike for China scoots, please don't frequent Scootdawg! Sounds like the typical "Maybe a few of them actually run but all the rest are junk" line. While you are entitled to your opinion, it just isn't supported on this forum. The vast majority of members have one or more Chinese scoots and will respectfully disagree with you. We don't put down the choice of others on this forum!

I think that you have misquoted me. Plus, I respect everyone's personal choice. I have not said that anyone made the wrong choice or attacked anyone's character in any way. I have picked up some really helpful tips here from a number of helpful individuals. I have no doubt that sme have had great luck and great experiences with their scooter choice. Unfortunately my experience with a Lance Duke 250 was not similar to that of a few here. If you purchased a Chinese scooter and it has worked out for you I celebrate your good fortune. You have had your experience and I have had mine. There will be a few bad apples in any basket so large. I think that just because someone relates the story of how they found a worm in their apple and they talk about it does not make them an apple hater. I have no idea why you are so sensitive and ready to pounce but my wish for you is nothing short of well being and happiness. Good luck on your journey.

Well as a Lance freak I'd like to know more of the details about your Lance. I am sorry your Duke 250 experience was not as positive as mine has been but maybe we could learn from one another?

henrydiecker,
Sorry you took offense to my post. I will elaborate on why your post was not well received. You made a very broad, general statement w/o backing it up with any facts or first hand experience. Exactly like what we get from China scoot haters. Your experience is far from typical with a Lance branded scoot. Checking around this board and other reputable ones will back that up. We are all open and honest about Chinese scoots here. Nothing is hidden or swept under the rug - problems are openly presented and discussed. We would very much like to hear of your bad experience with your Lance 250, be very supportive and try to help you solve your problem(s).

I suspect that you are correct and I did indeed get the worm when many have experienced full satisfaction. I know that I made a few mistakes in my Lance Duke 250 purchase.
I polled a lot of folks about the Duke and found a significant number with positive experience.
I met a local reseller who hosts a website and sells from their home. Without actually seeing the product first hand I paid cash, yes cash for a scooter that would be ordered for me. I agreed to pay an extra $10 for the prep of the scooter. The scooter was delivered to the reseller and it had damage. I was told that they accepted the scooter as was rather than return it as Lance would rather replace parts than exchange the scooter. I dn't know the accuracy of that. The scooter had several scratched panels and a scratched windshield. Parts were ordered and I was assured that the issues would be resolved in a timely manner. Well, I was three weeks into the experience at that part. My better half had taken the safety course. We were supposed to go pick up the scooter and when the panels arrived they would be swapped. On the way to pick up the scooter we received a call that there was an issue with the front brakes and all the brake fluid leaked out. A day later I was informed that it was very difficult to bled the brakes. Then there was an issue with cracked plastic around the handle bars and switches had failed. Again weeks for more parts. Then the end came when there was a lack of contact from the reseller (I have that call on tape) that there were other issues with the scooter including a leaking gas tank. The reseller said that his wife had been on the phone all week with Lance and they finally agreed to take the scooter back. The reseller went on to communicate that there were known issues with the current batch of Dukes and Lance was taking the position that they would ship the scooters and then deal with replacement parts. The reseller is a master mechanic by the way. I have no way to verify the claims of the reseller regarding the Duke experience. I was told that they had several customers with Duke interest and they steered them in another direction. My Duke was the first Duke the reseller had sold. I was suprised when the documentation came and ScooterFactory was listed as the seller rather than the local reseller. To further complicate matters I ran out and got insurance and plates (plus sales tax) for the scooter as soon as the Origin documents came. Today I received an email from the reseller that promised that I would receive most of the money that I have spent by the end of the month. This whole mess started in early April. Am I a Chinese scooter hater? No! Have I been to scooter hell? Yes!. Do I think all Chinese scooters are junk? Of course not. Do I think that it is best to buy from a Brick and Mortar dealer? Yes! Do I think the Chinese scooter sales network has matured to the point of being a safe bet for all? No. Would I consider buying another Chinese scooter in the future? Yes, if I could get it from a Brick and Mortor Dealer with some established history and a good BBB rating. Did I learn that I should not pay cash up front for an item that someone with a website is selling out of their driveway? Of course. I just got carried away with what could have been. I had some silly romantic vision of early morning weekend rides with my better half to interesting locations within an hour of the house. Am I bitter? No. Disappointed? Yes. I guess what added insult to injury is that I exchanged numerous emails with a man who claimed to be the CEO of Lance Powersports prior to the purchase and in these emails I was told that Lance would take care of me. I still have the emails if you want them. I also have the emails where the reseller, prior to knoing all the issues with the scooter, said they would pay me back in full and sell the scooter to someone lse. Plus we have a PBX at our house that records all calls in and out. I have the calls with the promises from the reseller. I really don't fault the reseller as they seemed to be caught in the middle with meand seemed to have genuinely tried to resolve the issues before they felt there was no hope for the scooter and returned it to Lance. I am not sure what I am supposed to do with the title, plates and tax receipt. I haven't checked to see if I can get a refund on any of that from the state. Best wishes - Henry

Henry,
You have, indeed, been through "Chinese Scooter Hell"! You clearly stated your experience in your post and have every right to be disappointed. I sincerely hope your experience ends on a positive note. As far as your tags and insurance, you should be able to transfer those to another scoot if you continue to pursue your dream. I really do wish you good luck and hope you don't let this stop you from scooting.

Henry: That was a lousy deal. Sounds like that bike was severely damaged in transit and this reseller did a number on you. Lance aka ScootersFactory has a good record making right on transit damages and parts replacement. When buying direct last year we had a very specific set of instructions on what to do about shipping damages if any occured. We were blessed to have our scoots come through just fine. That IS a terrible experience. Did you try talking to Lance aka S/F directly about the behavior and statements of this seller?

Thanks for the feedback guys. Thanks for the tp on transferring tags and tax to a different scooter. I have bought a used 07 Burgman 400 and an 08 Hyosung. While my spirit may get a bit dampened I never let my dreams die. We have really enjoyed he little trips we take. Last weekend on Sat we took a ride to a resteraunt for lunch that we hadn't been to in years. On Sun we did the same to a nice place on the South Side. We have the communicators for bike to bike chat. Very fun, very nice and it is a "we" thing rther than just me riding back and forth to work. You kow, I just took the resellers at their word since they seemed to be trying to resolve the issues. I never contacted Lance Powersports or S/F directly. Hmmm... I may have jumped to conclusions that were not right. Thanks again, Happy scooting. - Henry

at this time ALL lance duke 250's are supposed to have a free 18 point check and test drive before shipping. I'm sorry you got in before this and had to pay 1o dollars for a check. I really hope my duke has no problems, because we have a really worthless local dealer here. I'll have to pay to get anything fixed by a local racing mechanic. They are good , and Lance will replace parts, but it will just not be cool if anything is wrong. I know ya gotta pray when dealing with online stuff , but what choice do I have out here in the desert on the border where the only thing that is catered to is Harley's and anything over 750 cc's .
Scooters are just laughed at out here . Our problem is that there are no good scooter dealers in this city. Everything is going to have to take place online and by mail and phone ..... and I know this . In the mean time I'm paying over 200 bucks a month for gas on my little truck and that's just to get to work alone.

Henry: Ride safe and enjoy the ride.

Tex: Always glad to meet another Lance Duke owner. I don't think you'll have any problems.
Ride safe Lance bro.

Blessings to you guys,
Tom

All I can say is what Henry went through is something that is not unfamiliar nor uncommon. I've read it time and time again through this site and others. I was one of the fortunate ones that there is a local Lance Duke dealer (less than 1 mile away from me) and they have taken great care of me. In fact, I would say they have done an excellent job after the sale. When my scooter arrived they completed the installation, filled the fluids, and tested the scooter before I picked it up. All that was no charge!! They also informed me that my front disc brake was damaged by a fork lift in shipping, they replaced that from another scooter in stock so that I didn't have to wait. I recently had an issue with the trunk where the pin that helps secure the lid to the lock assembly some how snapped while out riding it. They fixed the trunk at no charge to me. So for me it's been a positive experience that I wish everyone else out there had or will have.

On a side note... Since this is a Chinese brand scooter I purchased this scooter knowing that I might have some issues or problems that would need to be addressed. Especially for a $2500 scooter. I surely could have paid considerably more money for a brand name like Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha. But I wasn't willing to drop $6k or more for my first scooter. Hell for that kind of money I could have bought a real bike.

Good Luck All & Safe Scooting
