A LInhai 300 scooter purchase journal...
« Thread Started on Jun 5, 2008, 10:57am »

Well, I intend to keep this going for those that might follow behind me in buying a more fuel efficient vehicle that isn't a mainstream bike that might actually afford a bit more enjoyment than jumping into a car to go pick up a purchase from your retailer.

After a lot of research and consternation, I decided on a Linhai 300. This conclusion was arrived at after several other conclusions and I'm still not quite sure. I'm buying this bike from Valley Scooters as the best price I could find locally was more than double for a Bergman 400 at 5500.

After going through the ScootDawg forum about dealers and reading the threads here in this forum, I decided to buy from Valley Motorsports. They have been more responsive than most to my telephone calls and their price is comparable to anyone else on the web. I asked for a best deal and was told that the web price was it. I then asked if he couldn't even give a break to a ScootDawg member.

"You're a ScootDawger?"

"Sure am."

Okay, I'll give you $xx.xx off"

I said done.

Well, they don't take PayPal and I just had a prob with my card and had canceled it yesterday so I'm doing a bank transfer to assure that I can still get the red one.

Again, thanks to all of you that post here. You have helped me in what I hope is a good decision in buying a Chinese Scooter.

More to come.

Yossarian,
Congrats on your decision. After you get it, get it checked out and on the road, you will like it more each day! Give yourself a few hundred (s)miles to familiarize yourself with it's handling characteristics and you will be movin out!

Be certain to read my new sticky started today about my conversation with the importer.

Will do, ScooterOllie! It's going to be hard to do a thorough inspection and service before riding, but this forum has instilled the need for it in me to a high degree.

Thanks!

I just ordered one from Valley as well last night. I order the blue one. I really wanted Silver, but no silver ones left. I didn't think to ask about the discount. You are lucky. I'm not sure when mine will come in, probably next week or week after next sometime. This is my second scoot. My first was a Vento 150.

Hey Stephen,

I sent you a PM earlier. I am pretty sure that Allen at A&B has some silver ones at the shop. Just in case you had not checked yet.

yossarian,

If your experience is like many others who have ordered from the various scooter companies. You will only experience one week of anguish and agony until the scoot arrives. :)

Here's what it may look like:

http://www.veoh.com/videos/v413484BWp9NNSD&source=embedVideo

Went out and bought a battery charger, metric sockets and wrenches today, stopped by a local Chinese bike dealer and spoke with them a bit then ordered this helmet on Ebay:

I guess I'll go ahead and go pick up the fluids this weekend at Wally World.

Got a call back from John at Valley Scooters confirming my order and color of the bike. I should get it sometime next week.

So far, so good.

Most, if not all, deliveries of the 260/300 seem to be shipped by R&L Carriers and arrive pretty fast. Two days for mine from Indiana to West Virginia.

Well soon people will be ordering and receiving the 2008 since there can't possibly many 2006 Linhai 300's left. I have been riding my scooter for just under a week and have put just over 150 miles on it, it seems to run smoother and better with each mile. The desire to ride it is like a disease with out any cure. :P

You are soooo right. I am really excited about my purchase. Can't wait to be able to post notes on delivery and set up and (dare I say it) the ride.

He really seems like a good dealer.

So far so good. Still no info on shipping but the order was only placed on the 5th of this month (June).

I ordered a blue SS300 on the same day as you, and other than an initial confirmation email, no shipping info. as of yet. He said it would be next week before they got shipping info to me though.

As of 05 June, there are about 30 2006 300s left.

I got mine a couple weeks ago. Still waiting for my MCO, so lots of illegals rides around my neigbhorhood.

My tip is:

1. Fill the tank with gas after it's uncrated. You're getting an 06 thats been sitting for 2 years. The pressure of a full tank sitting overnight (while battery is charging) will help unstick the fuel pump, assuming it is stuck like mine was.

Cheers,
PR

Sounds like good advice. I will run out tomorrow and make sure I have the fuel.

What Octane are you using?

FYI, while I had the panels off my scoot today I saw the plate with the date of manufacture as 06/05, so if you have an 06, its probably been sitting closer to three years. Extra motivation to change those fluids.

Before you fill the tank on any new scoot, get out your flashlight and visually inspect it for any type of debris. If you prime the carb before trying to start it for the first time, you won't have any problems with the pump or lines.

You sure that's not 2006/May? You do know that not all countries have their date formats the same as the US, right? ;)

I got my Aeolus 260 in from Valley Scooters last month, and it was a really good experience dealing with John and Linda. I got the order in on a Thursday and had my scoot in the next Wednesday afternoon. It took about 10 days to get the MCO/Bill of Sale. I'm hoping to get a more thorough review/initial impressions post up very soon.

Falcon,
Thanks for the pics. Will be great to have a write up for a Linhai Classic 260. Still '06 versions remaining at the warehouse. A great choice for the folks looking for a 250 class scoot. Based on the Euro. YP 250.

Just spoke with John at Valley again after seeing another Dawg who ordered his 300 the same day as I was getting his tomorrow (6-10)' to see if there was any shipping information available yet. The conversation was quick and short on his end as if he were very busy.

A salesman he is not. And that's one of the reasons I ordered from him. If I want BS, I can call my ex.

Alas, no information on the shipment. I have no idea when it will be here.

I wait with baited breath and excitement into the thought of digging into a new machine to make it my own. :)

Too verbose? Eh?

Bumping because I can't wait and I added the poll!

(ordered on Thursday, no information on the shipping as of yet. Called Valley on Monday evening to check and was told no information was available). One orderer on the same day in a neighboring state has received his and was hoping to have at least received a call by today.

Cheers all!

Called Valley Scooters to see if they had an update on the status of my order and was given a message that the mailbox was full and could not accept new messages.

Had an option of leaving my # on a pager which I did.

On edit: John called me back later in the evening and emailed. Still no confirmed date.
