| | Diamo Turista 300 will not start « Thread Started on Jan 16, 2012, 7:50pm » | |
I have a 2008 Diamo Turista 300 that I bought used with about 4000 miles on it. I have put about 1200 miles on it since, with really no problems, and have had it serviced twice (oil and fluids change, tuneup).
I have not ridden it for about a month and went to start it last week and nothing when I hit the starter switch.
I replaced the battery and checked the sidestand switch which is not sticking. Still nothing. I suspect it is the starter switch/relay but am not sure what to do to track it down and the manuals and guides I have found online are little help.
I would like to try to fix this myself as the nearest service location is 30 miles away.
Any help anyone can provide will be tremendously appreciated.

Have you tried swapping out the cdi? These are a common problem on the Aeolus/Daimo 300's. I always kept a spare on hand. Also -- the rear brake lever has a interrupt switch in it, I think. If this in inoperable, it won't start.

Lets go step by step. First put in the key, turn it on, on press the right brake. Is the brake light lighting up? If not, odds are its your brake switch is broken and needs to be replaced. The other thing I'd try is just check all your fuses, including the fuse across the battery.

The starter relay is easy to check. With the key on, Use a screwdriver to short across the two big posts on the relay. If it starts, the relay has an issue.

Thanks all, for your input. I did as suggested and when jumping the relay, sure enough it started.
Now the question is, where can I find a new relay? The service center/dealer advised that Diamo is out of business, and they won't even look for the part.
I have found a used one on Ebay, salvaged from a totaled scoot, but am hesitant to get a used relay and how long this one may last.
I know this scoot is the same thing as the Linhai Mainstreet/Aeolus 300 (it even has an imprint inside the storage compartment that refers to it as a Linhai Mainstreet 300, and Linhai molded into the handlebars), but the relays I have seen for the Aeolus look completely different.
Could I use the relay from an Mainstreet/Aeolus without fear of burning out the starter or other electrical components?
Thanks in advance

It would not be tough to confirm that you are getting power to the primary side of the relay when you press the starter switch. You will need a VOM and a helper to do this, ( you need more hands than you have)
